: Air Cleaner Decal Removal

I'm just finishing up my engine compartment resto on my '66 and I wanted to put a fresh new horsepower decal on the chrome air cleaner lid. The flags are just fine and I don't really want to remove them.

What's the best method to get the adhesive off without clouding the chrome, or in any way damaging it? (I know how soft chrome can be). Regular adhesive remover with a soft plastic scraper? Enamel reducer?

Thanks.

Try some WD-40 or other pentrating oil,

And if you have to remove an actual decal,
heat it first with a hair dryer

You may also want to try a product called "goo-gone" I think it's available at places like WalMart etc.
