I put a new set of points in my 69 ss 396. I set the preliminary points gap to .019 per the manual. When I try to set the dwell using a dwell meter, the meter stays on zero and as much as I try to adjust the points in either direction, the dwell meter does not move. I have tried different dwell meters and playing with the timing. What am I missing?

Whenever I installed new points,I never gapped them, just installed them and hooked up the dwell meter, and fired up the car,and set 'em @ 30
Never had a problem..

Are you hooking up the dwell meter to the right post on the coil? it goes on the small post with the "-" mark, same one the wire from the points goes to.
Does the car run? Is the condensor hooked up?
