I just broke a 3 jaw gear puller while attempting to remove a 454 lower TC gear last night and broke my harmonic balancer puller while tearing down an a late model 350 engine last week.

I'd like to replace both with tools that will last. I was hoping to find replacements at the Snap-On website, but wasn't certain the tools I was viewing were what I'm looking for (based on the description). I'd appreciate recommendations for quality, USA made tools. I'm leaning towards Snap-On, but would consider others. The ability to order the tools on-line would be a plus. Thanks in advance.

The really good tools can be bad-awful expensive. And the harbor freight stuff is not an attractive solution. So, recently I got the brainwave to look on Ebay and have bought some used Milwaukee power tools for about 40% of the new price. Also bought some Mac hand tools pretty cheap. And I got some Snap-on stuff on the way. This looks to me like the best way to get quality stuff at an affordable price. The biggest drawback is the shipping costs can be significant.

whatever brand you get, you need to make sure it is the kind that bolts on to the pully holes. The kit should come with a bunch of bolts & bushings graemlins/thumbsup.gif

OTC makes nice puller sets and can be bought from some local parts stores.

I've got Lyle(sp) pullers. Have done a number of balancers and gears w/o problem. I am looking for a thrust bearing for my bal installer though. It uses a 9/16 size wrench to hold the shaft. Takes a big wrench to get the bal. on. Basically wears out both hands by the time your done. Some kits come with a bearing for the installer.

Kent-Moore has a web site and sells these tools IIRC.

Thanks for all the replies. I'll keep an eye out for Lisle and OTC. I'll be checking-out ebay and Kent-Moore.

Edit: I just ordered a Lisle Balancer puller and a SK gear puller on-line. Hopefully these will last, otherwise I'm gonna have to chase down a Snap-On man. Thanks again to all who replied.
