I'm gathering parts for my 454 rebuild (no A/C) and was wondering which water pump I need to get, long or short ?

Thanx

I think they changed to the long WP in 1969. 67 and earlier is short, not sure about 68.

1969 was the change to the long water pumps for most BBC in std cars, but i am not sure if that was in fact trus for the Vett's.

1968 and down for std cars was the short water pump.

That's correct, in regards to Chevelles, short is for 68-earlier and long is for 69-later. If you get the appropriate pump for your respective year model car (NOT the engine), everything else in the way of brackets, pulleys, accessories, etc, will be much more compatable .

I would go with a long pump if putting it in a 69 or newer car. Short pump brackets are hard to find and expensive, when you do find them! smile.gif
