How many of you are running a hyd.roller in your big block? I really want to install one in my 427" but am trying to justify the extra dough.
What cam grinds are you using?

Clint, I am running the XR288HR comp cam in my 454. This came has close to the same timing as the 288/296 UD cam, but less lift and it is a hydralic roller. Once I settled on the right carb, the engine pulls great. I have been running this cam for a year now and have 10,000 miles on the engine with no problems (so far anyway).

Thanks for the info,Dean. I've been looking at the XR276HR which has a power curve from 1,900-5,600rpm. With 4.10 rear cog,26" tall 335/35/17 rear tires, and Viper T56 tranny;cruise rpm at 70mph will be around 2,000rpm. Finding a cam that is comfortable at 2K rpm cruising in 6th is what I'm looking for.

Clint, I ran the same cam you are looking at in my 396. Same comments. Cam works great. Doesn't sound quite as radical, but no complaints on the performance.

I have a Crane in my "502". 230I/236E at .05 lift. (292/298 total) I have a 2004R that I lockup and the motor will cruise at 1400 RPM with no tendency to buck or load up.
