is anyone running 8 coils on a bbc like the ls motors? is there any advantage of running 8 coils for spark instead of one coil?

It can be done... just need the right crank and cam position sensors and EFI controller.

The advantages are pretty much the same as they are for any engine... reduced duty cycle for the coil(s) leads to less heat, elimination of the distributor, more accurate ignition timing, potential to individually adjust ignition timing on each cylinder.

If you get really advanced you could run ion sensing on each cylinder and really optimize ignition timing for each cylinder... but I am unaware of any commercial EFI controllers which can do this yet.

So let me ask you,
Would people be very interested in a CNP retrofit setup that allowed you to choose your own coils and set the dwell to whatever you want. It would emulate a seven pin HEI module and therefore would work with most any EFI ecu ?
I dont have one done yet, I have two other electronics projects to finish first but this is on my list.

They have a complete LS computer/ignition swap kit for the big-block. You can also get it through www.tpis.com

Killer setup!
