iwas wondering if anyone could help me
questions: can i replace the 305 tbi in my 89 4x4 chevy with a 283
can i use the 305 dome and tbi on my 283(will it fit)

In theory, yes.....as long as you have small valves in your TBI centerbolt heads.
1987-1995 use the same intake manifold and heads for TBI, these are a different bolt pattern than 55-85 heads.
So essentially, if you put your 350 Centerbolt heads on that 283, you could do it...perhaps with some reprogramming of the computer to compensate for the smaller cubic inches.
However...I do have to say that I would strongly recommend against this swap.
A 283 is a bit on the puny side for a 5000 pound truck. Yes, 305s were available prior to 1987, and there were some straight 6's available some years. But these are long stroke torque motors. A 283 has a 3 inch stroke, and none of the efficiency advantages of technology like the newer 4.8 vortecs.
P.S I just put together a 1989 K5, so thats why Im so windy about this ;)

I just noticed....you said 305. Are you sure its a 305 and not a 350? Check the glove box for the "L" code. Im guessing L05
