A previous thread discussed some cold running problems with his small block. Below are a few quick photos of the engine.
I don't see anything amiss with the choke set up, though there is no way to tell if it is working right from a photo, but the choke horn sure has a lot of black gunk on it which in contrast to the cleanliness of the rest of the engine makes me suspect there may be other problems as well.
Perhaps Kevin pipe in again and describe again what the symptoms are and what fixes he may already have tried.

If he is running a drop based air cleaner it is possible that the top of the air cleaner is hitting the choke butterfly on warm up. I had the problem with my drop base and had to put a stop nut on the air cleaner stud to stop the top (rhymes) from hitting the butterfly.

Easy money. No vacuum to choke pulloff piston. I had to adjust the amount of pull-off on mine, even though Holley says it's pre-set.
I assume the problem is flooding out/loading up just after starting. IF he can keep it running long enough to warm up, it may run OK

Is the choke pull off vacuum port the small tube jutting out just below the choke housing that in the pictures has a rubber cap on it?

It was running manifold vacuum but due to intermittent spitting and backfire I moved it back to ported for troubleshooting. It does it every once in awhile not very often. The issue is at start up you have to hold the idle to 1000 or better or it will die. The choke is set to close as soon as you hit the petal. I suspect that isn't the case. I have fouled two sets of plugs in under a month. When I pulled them out they were toast but no oil which another issue I have oil usuage but I have something up my sleeve for that and will report the results later. I have considered pulling the juice off the choke and wrap it with electrical tape to see how it runs without it. The jets can't be that far off 72's and 74's. My power valve is 3.5 but I only have 7lbs of vacuum at idle.(big cam). My exhaust is very rich smelling all the time and my pipes are black inside. This whole issue didn't start until I changed my heads and puts some afr's on. It was way to lean at first and now is doing the opposite.

I forgot to mention that I did check the air cleaner and position it so it can't interfere with the choke plate. I have checked and or tightened all bolts on the manifold to lower the chance of any leaks.

I think the comment on vacuum meant vacuum to the choke mechanism, not vacuum to the distributor (which I think is what you meant Kevin).
Keep the conversation going, we'll get it figured out.
It does seem obvious is is running rich. Jetting down may be a good thing to do. I also think it might be possible you have an overall vacuum leak either at the carb/manifold base or within the carb itself.

Well I will look into the vacuum leak somemore but I have just jetted up recently due to 71's making the car run hot which was lean. I am going to focus on the choke and any possible leaks. I have look into the primary area and there is no raw fuel when it is sitting and the bowl levels are correct. There has to be a leak else where.
