I have a 70 chevelle that I am just beginning restoration on. I have found a lot of good information from this site. I was wondering where I can find information on original paint colors for the engine block and all the engine components. There is a good section on this site that gives all the original chassis colors, but doesn't really addess enigine colors. Is there a good website or a good book that I can find this information.

Also is there any good general resoration books out there. Like what is the best area to start or the proper order for restoration from start to finish? Thanks

Check the Resto tips on the main page for this site and look and the Engine and Undercarriage link. Gives some great tips.

Get a lot of Chevy Orange paint.....

Go to a bookstore (Barnes and Noble is where I saw it)and look in the Transportation Section. I saw a book that dealt strictly with Chevelle Restoration, but I don't remember the name. Your engine is going to be Chevrolet Orange. Chevy V-8s were this color during the 60's through the mid 70's, where they changed over to Corporate Blue (Ugly!) and then to black in the early 80's to present. It'ws up to you on where you want to start the resto. Most people start from the bottom and make their way up (Frame-up).

Ryan,

Just my opinnion, but anything less than taking the body off of the frame is just a clean up. And for what little extra work that it takes to get the bodies off, I wouldn't consider doing it any other way. I took my body and frame apart last fall and winter. Took no more than a weekend to completely clean/degrease, dissasemble and box, bag & tag everything.

Well worth the work. Now with all fresh undercarriage, I have been driving the car and doing things as I get the time, money and motivation.
