i just bought a set of hooker comp. headers. they are painted black (from the factory).While in shipping some of the paint came off. so i bought the eastwood stainless steel gray exhaust manifold/tube header treatment, and want to remove the black paint. it reccomends that you sand blast the headers if they are painted. but what i was wondering is if i could just use a chemical stripper instead???? anyone have this experience???? thanks in advance.

What I did for my dynomax's was I mounted them up ran em' a couple of weeks this allowed the engine to burn off the paint then I took em' off painted them with high Temp silver spray paint still lookin' good. One thing I must mention though is I ran them like this during summer in CA.(ie: no moisture to screw up the metal)

Also, believe it when Eastwood says make sure you start the engine w/in 10 days (I think that was the time frame) to heat them up and cure the paint. Due to unforseen problems, I waited about two months and when I started the car, it looked like a smoke bomb went off in the engine compartment. Virtually every bit of the header paint either vaporized on the spot or peeled off into a zillion little flakes. My buddies haven't let me forget this.
