found a place in town that sells reman 454 long and short blocks, finally a big block, in great condition, but which should i buy, the long block sounds great way less work, but will i be giving up alot in performance where as if i was going to buy the short block i could put my own heads, cam so on and so on but would take longer, what should i do?

I personally would buy the short block if I didn't have a core engine to start with. I would rebuild the short block. Yes I said rebuild the short block. Then buy the rest of my parts myself.

I used to work for a auto parts store. We sold Reman engines. There were a few that needed some love before installing. One was missing a rod bolt. No rod bolt.

Heck just try to make a deal for just a 2-bolt block, bore her .060" over and drop in a balanced 496 rotating ass'y and the cam you want. Oh, add a set of main studs, too... Cheap insurance thing, that's all...

Next, get what heads you want along with an intake and carb. as well as headers and you will be good to go!!!

I've got $3800 to $4000 in mine with new Merlin ovals and a new Strip Dom. intake and now know I could have built her for quite a bit less... pdq67
