: Which air cleaner for 454 w/ Holley 750 DP?
gigem Jan 4th, 03, 5:06 PM I need to get an air cleaner for my car. It's got a 454, Edelbrock Performer intake and Holley 750 DP carb. Has the raised hood, not cowl induction.
Clearance is an issue, obviously...
I'm not looking for the "correct" filter (since car originally had a SB), just one that performs well. I'm partial to open elements http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif
Any suggestions on what to look for or where to look?
mr 4 speed Jan 4th, 03, 5:11 PM Your typical, low profile 14" x 3" open element style air cleaner will be fine.

Barista Jan 4th, 03, 5:41 PM There are reproduction drop base air cleaners on Ebay all the time that will allow you to use the 14 x 3" filter. I have a 14 x 4" on mine. Fits fine on the big block with a stock SS hood.

yes. that's why i paid my money...
gigem Jan 27th, 03, 3:43 PM OK, it turns out that the Holley 750 double pumper was in fact a 650 DP. That, plus the fact that it was in bad shape have convinced me to replace it with a Edelbrock 750 w/ electric choke.
But now the air cleaner I bought for the Holley doesn't fit.
Anybody running an Edelbrock 750 carb? What air cleaner did you use? I see that Edelbrock makes one (of course)...
P.S. I got the carb w/ the electric choke..

So why doesn't the air cleaner from the Holley fit the Edelbrock?? I went the other way on my 454, put a Holley in place of the edelbrock, but used the same filter. If it's from the fuel inlet fitting, they do make a fix for that...
FYI, I'm using a 14"x5" K&N open on my 454 and a drop base. Looks pretty cool to open the hood and see that big air cleaner in there! I'm also running about a 1/2" phenolic spacer between the carb and mnaifold too! The 454 is topped by a Stealth manifold which I think is very close to a Performer in height!
Email me if you want to see some pics.
PS.. What are your plans for the 650 DP? I need one for the small block on my Nova?!! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif
Good luck,

Problem is the drop base on the air cleaner. It doesn't clear the Edelbrock.
I noticed in my Summit catalog they show Edelbrock air cleaners, and mention that some won't work w/ their carbs, and others that need spacers.
650 DP is gone. $40 on eBay.

Now that you mention it, I do recall having to mess around with a spacer or something on the carb to raise the air cleaner up a little... like about 1/2" if I recall correctly. Check out the K&N drop bases tho... I seem to recall them having one that is supposed to work on even the Edelbrock carbs...
