Not sure at all but the Canadian List of options (on this website) for 65 indicate 7.75 14" tire. If that is the tire that came with the car then a tire chart that I have says that this converts to a P215 70R designation and that is a 25.9" diameter... but I am not sure if that was the standard tire. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Nice looking wheel.

Let me give you another tip. When I have a question that is year specific, I always try to put that year in the Topic Title of the posting. This way the 65 experts tend migrate to the question and at least open it even if they don't have the answer. I only opened up your thread becasue I was curious why it had'nt gotten a response to what seemed like a fairly benign topic.

Good Luck with your 65 & the new Wheels

I'm looking for tires for my 64 so I've checking everywhere for infro. Not sure where I found this but have it written down as "Oringinal Equipment" on one of my list. By todays listing of tires I have 205/75/14 which would make it 26.10 Dia.

Back in '64 the tires were still 80 or 85 series (tall & skinny). The industry switched to something closer to 75 or 78 series for the 1965 model year, but they still didn't actually include the aspect ratio in the tire designation. The old 1964 7.50-14 was replaced with a same diameter but wider 7.75-14. The old 7.00-14 was replaced with the 7.35-14, while a 6.50-14 was replaced with a 6.95-14.
I have a picture from a Popular Science in 1964 that showed the distortion wave on the old tires under load and at speed. I don't know how any sort of high speed drives were survivable with the old technology; they had major distortion waves in the sidewalls and tread.
I still have 1 original 7.35-14 tire mounted on the original rim for my Chevelle sitting in my garage. It is not safe to drive on but it is cool to look at. I guess I could measure it for the diameter if necessary .
