I have noticed that my 70 Chevelle SS has correct SS wheels, They are chrome, when did they use a beauty ring ??on 69' or 70's?? with slotted SS wheels
Just wondering

Thx

If they are chrome they are not Chevy!! I know Buick had chrome and maybe others.See my sig. for 69-70 wheels with trim rings. Mike

Thx Lots of cars used the same wheel, different finish. It's a Magnum 500 wheel, I think, someone will correct me if I'm wrong. It's not a Chevy wheel, probably Kelsey Hayes or ? Can't think of the other company from back then. Anyway Chrysler, AMC, Ford, GM all used that wheel. They just had different finish and center cap. Some used the trim ring some didn't.

Probably the Olds/Buick wheels discussed in detail here:

Thx guys, now that I look at them you were right.....Buick, ughhh.
Hey anybody want to buy a set of used wheels???? These are actually in excellent condition. Think I will post them on Ebay!
I guess I will start looking for some true SS wheels.

If they are Olds wheels, then they're identical to the Chevelle SS rims with the exception of the chrome. Check by the valve stem for an "LZ" stamp. I dont know if your doing an all original resto, but they can be sand blasted and painted to resemble chevelle wheels. I actually re-did a couple of "LZ" wheels and they look great. If they are the LZ wheels and you're wanting to get rid of them let me know!

If they are the Buick wheels, then I agree...YUCK!

Actually,if you put a trim ring and an "SS" centercap on a Buick wheel, they don't look bad ;)
I use 15" Buick wheels with the trim ring/SS center for my Hoosier drag tires.
Check in my profile picture, don't look too bad.

There seem to be a fair number of the SS wheels available yet because the SS Chevelles were made in large numbers and most of them went to the dirt tracks in the 70s and were trashed.

I have one set of 69 SS wheels that I picked up in a local wrecking yard. The 69 wheel is coded differently than the 70 wheel so it isn't correct for a 70 model car, but they look the same.

Ask around at your local wrecking yards and go to your local swap meets. They still show up occasionally.

Thx All for the replies, I have been working on the wiring, so haven't spent much time on the wheels, I guess I am not as serious about the wheels as I thought, they are actually in very good condition. I will check the "LZ", where these a special 1 year only wheel??? for Buick.
