Hey All,
My girlfriend went out of her way this year to surprise me with a really great gift! She bought me some new Falcon's for my new TT's (Front 8s, back 9.5s)

The downside is this.. they are:
274x40x17
225x45x17
Mounted, the rim/wheel combo is 25 inches. What are going to be the minuses and pluses of running this combo? The downside so far is running them at a higher rpm and wasting gas, Anything for or agasint? Thanks for the help!

I can't offer any advice...
But how did you go about getting the spokes on those rims to look like that?
They look great!!!!

Downside: on the rears is the short size (higher RPMs), but I don't think there is much availability in a taller, wide tire in a 17-inch size that will fit nicely and look good (tread pattern included), at least ones in a reasonable price range.
I know when I was looking a few months ago, 275/40/17 looked to be the best choice, although a little shorter than I wanted...
I really don't think gas mileage, while a little less, will be significantly different unless you found a really tall tire... Usually people get 17's to run low profile tires anyway, so not much difference
Downside #2: The fronts seem pretty narrow to me. Not only for a Chevelle, but for an 8-inch wheel...
If using the correct BS, you should be able to go 245-255 no problem. I have seen people run 275/40 up front on a Chevelle with the proper BS, and I have run 265 up front for years...
Upside: Assuming you haven't mounted them yet, you should be able to trade them in on a different size, and probably not hurt the girlfriends feelings too much, but I'd try to get the same brand anyway (that way the GF will feel you liked her choice (brand) but just needed a different size... Most people realize that when giving gifts, that "fit" might be an issue...
Upside #2:
You have a GF that will buy you car parts (and pretty expensive too), so obviously she cares about you (and YOUR hobby/interests)... Sounds like a keeper... Downside to that, is that you need to buy her something thoughtful (and probably $$$)...
Hey Guys,
Slowpoke70: No problem! Thanks though. As for the rims, I got them powercoated glossy black. They look dull in the photo, need to be shined. Tapped off the front to keep the polish look, while still having a dark look to them. I love the TT's but every car has them, so figured Id look a bit different.
1966_L78: Thanks so much for the advice! Really is appreciated. Sadly the tires got mounted on the rims yesterday afternoon (I posted last night). They are gonna go on the chevelle tomorrow. In conversation with my gf she didn't seem to concerened, told me to leave her the car so she can burn the tires off and then we can get new ones. Uh... No. I think for now I'll just sit back and enjoy the gift and when the time comes for new rims, plan a bit better.
Yes, she really is the best and a keeper! She loves cares alot, and will be getting a project car, a 68'Vette I believe. Then we'll be having some issues as the Chvelle has to beat the vette.
Thanks again!
