I could really use some help from the sage wisdom of the best car site on the web. Here's what I am thinking about doing for my '70 SS. The car is very near completion at the resto shop and I need to make a tire/wheel decision. With a mildly built LS6 4 bolt mill, I know I really need a better contact patch than a stock 14X7 inch wheel can provide. I'd like to go with 15 in. SS style wheels for the correct look shod with 235/60 15's Front (BFG T/A's. 25.1 in. Tall, 7.6 in. wide) and 295/50 15's Rear (BFG T/A's. 26.7 in. Tall, 9.5 in. wide).

Questions-what back spacing should I go with front and rear? I hear I can get these 15 inch SS style rims in 8 in. or 10 in. wide for the rear. Which is best? Many Thanks in advance.

Ct,

for 8 inch wheels run 4.5 bs. On the 10s 5.5. The tire sizes you have picked should work with ease. One thing about the 10 inch wheels is that they look a little different being deepr than the stock SS wheel. Not bad just a little different. BTW I have run 295/50s on 8 inch wheels and to me they looked okay on my 68. Good Luck smile.gif

Those are 15x8 rallys with the size tire you listed.

Saw this combo on a 70 LS6 car and just had to duplicate it. Alittle taller tire in the back gives it a forward "lean" and IMO a more aggressive stance.

How much does a tire and rim combo set you back, $?

I have 14" wheels and 1970 Malibu hub caps on my 1970 Chevelle Malibu now. That is what my dad and I had on a same model car back in 1978 but I am thinking about a more muscle look for me today.

Don't remember exactly but somewhere in the neighborhood of $250-300.00 per wheel/BFG T/A tire/trim ring for the back. I already had caps and chrome lug nuts from my stock 14" SS wheel set-up. Call Summit Racing, they can give you an exact price. For the 8" wide wheel you need the wider trim ring or the gap is too big.

Cost for the combo I'm thinking of is about $1,000.00 including shipping, but not ballancing and mounting.

Robert-Any reason you didn't go with a 295/50 on the 15X8's??

Just an FYI (don't laugh) JC Whitney sells some pretty nice trim rings for the 15X7 SS rims..they're 2 5/8" deep and are $50 for all 4 of them..stainless steel versions for $99

I run that same same rubber on one of mine. 15x8's front w/ 4.5 backspace, 15x10 rear with 5.5 backspace.
Pic is on the bottom of my homepage.

On my '71, BFG T/A's 235/60/15 on 15x7.5" and 285/70/15 on 15x8.5". It's got the right stance and the rear wheelwell is filled. Sorry, no photos, doing a completer rebuild.
