Hey guys, I had my el camino out for a good run today, coming home I rolled into the throttle pretty hard. When I had it floored, my "GEN" idiot light came on, but was really faint, and my car really struggled and sputtered, but no backfiring or anything.

It is a 350 small block, with HEI ignition, and my timing is set at 16 degrees inital timing (lunati voodoo 60102 cam).

Do I have some electrical issue and am not getting enough spark to the motor? :confused:

1st I would check the wires to the alternator for good contact.2nd I would take the alternator to the auto parts store for proper operation.Is your alt. pulley nut and belt tight? good battery?

X2, had this happen when battery was going bad.... you dont want to get stuck and if u can make it to auto parts store have them chk electrical sys while car is running...otherwise, take both (Alt. and Batty)off to have bench tested.....

The battery was replaced last summer, so hopefully its not going bad.

Get electrical checked...had same type problem few weeks ago..new Altenator and regulator..light would come on while driving. Found out when lite was on, regulator was shorting out and charging 16+ volts.
overloaded MSD. new regulator took care of problem Jay

Hmm.. the other day the car completely shut off on while driving, and found out that the wire from the battery wasnt fastened tightly at the starter, I obviously tightened that (after disconnecting the battery) nut up and the car fired right up and ran fine, including me being able to floor it and not have the light come on..

Do you guys think that it was the same problem, or just coincidence that while fixing one, the other problem stopped?
