: Used 17" wheels?
JeffK Sep 24th, 04, 9:14 AM I will be finishing the plumbing on my brakes soon and for me to install the front calipers (Bear 13"), I need a 17" (maybe 16") wheels. I would rather not buy and install my custom wheels and tires, only to send them on the car to the paint shop.
Any ideas?
Are there any newer GM cars with the same bolt pattern that I could find a set of cheap steel wheels/tires at the junkyard?
540cutlaSS Sep 24th, 04, 12:04 PM I am going to be doing the same thing. I have decided I will leave the calipers off the car until I get some nice wheels. Obviously I wont be driving the car til then, but can roll it around to work on it.
Aaron Sep 24th, 04, 12:39 PM The late model GM trucks are 16 inch wheels. Maybe you can find some at a salvage yard. Most of the Silverado wheels are alum., but the work trucks are steel graemlins/thumbsup.gif . Also late model vettes use 17 or 18 inch wheels. Also check with your local circle track guys graemlins/thumbsup.gif . Some of them use big wheels.
Aaron Sep 24th, 04, 5:35 PM Most used aftermarket wheels around here that are over 15 inch are just way to expensive to buy and use for your application. Best bet as I believe is your salvage yard.

Late model GM trucks have six lug wheels.
Clint44 Sep 24th, 04, 9:20 PM Jeff, pick up a set of 1989 or later Corvette spare tires. That year was the first year for Corvettes with 17" wheels.
Aaron Sep 24th, 04, 11:49 PM clint44, Your right, boy do I feel dumb, should of thought of that. I drive a 99 Sliverado.
JeffK Sep 25th, 04, 12:09 AM Thanks for the help. I'll try to locate a couple corvette wheels. I only need the 2 for the front.
71350SS Sep 25th, 04, 12:25 AM Jeff,
IF your going to the boneyard, late model GM FWD (Bonnevilles,Le Sabres,88's)
cars use a 16 inch wheel, maybe that spare would fit.Might be easier to find. Its just for rolling around at the body shop right?.
JeffK Sep 25th, 04, 12:25 PM Are the FWD cars the same 5 on 4-3/4 spacing?
I checked on a few corvette spares, $90 each. Kinda pricey.
I may just order my Boyd's and be done with it. It would be neat to see the stance before paint anyway.

Clint44 Sep 26th, 04, 1:44 PM I paid $25 for my last 17" Corvette spacesaver spare. Sorry, didn't realize they had gotten so high.
JeffK Sep 26th, 04, 10:51 PM I found a corvette forum and posted a wanted ad.
sandmann120 Oct 4th, 04, 1:03 AM Late model front wheel cars have a goofy bolt pattern. I know because my buddy has been dealing with that lately. Try a later model S-10 with ZQ8, or extreme package. those wheels are 16", and can be had for fairly cheap.
novaderrik Oct 4th, 04, 1:54 PM oddly enough, some mid 80's Regals and Monte's and the like have a 16" mini spare in them with a lot of room for big brakes. i currently have the mini spare out of my 84 Regal T Type in the trunk of the Nova, as it fits over the Vette PBR calipers on my 12" C4 corvette front setup. it actually looks like there is a lot of extra room behind the rim, so maybe 13" brakes will clear, too. AWD Astros have a 17" mini spare, but it won't clear a PBR caliper, so that's what i have in the trunk of the Regal.
