Hello, I finally decided to go with 18" wheels on my 67 convertible.

I know, I know !! But to each his own!!

Anyways, this is what I have chosen
Budnik wheels "Fontana" fat lip.
The manufactuer suggested:
F-18x8 w/4 B.S. 235/40/18
R-18x9 w/5.25 B.S. 275/40/18
The builder suggested this, based on past experience. Is this too conservative??
Thoughts or suggestions, welcome and appreciated!!!
I only have a few days to make any changes!!!
Thanks
Kevin

That sounds a little tight on the front backspacing with the outer fender. 4.5" backspacing would certainly be a better fit.

too conservative, 18X9 in the front and 18X10 in the rear

A 275/295 would be a nice combo

18x8 front would be about the max. if your gonna go 295's you had better nail the b/s cause your only gonna have about 1/4" on each side of the tire.

See this is what I am talking about!!!!
I do not want to roll the lip and dont want any rubbing!! I guess this is why Budnik is being conservative, Their dime if it rubs!
I beleive the car to have all original equipment. At this point I am more concerned with the front B.S.
Brad, I have always loved the look of your car I just want to make sure we are comparing apples to apples regarding equipment on your car VS the stock stuff on mine!!! Hope that makes sense!!

Thanks again!!

makes plenty of sense. Only thing not stock about mine is the brakes. I think the front hubs may change the track width a bit. The rearend is from a 68-72. Is there any way you can mock up or trial fit a couple rim/tire combos? That's what I did. The tire store was very accomodating. They came out several times with different wheels/tires since I was unable to bring my car to them. Only after very careful measuring were we able to order the correct b/s.

Brad, I happen to catch Budnik at the Goodguys show. Their special was $400 off. When I shopped around at a few larger tire and wheel stores they were $400-$600 more. And relied on the manufactuer for sizing!!! Hence the purchase from Budnik direct.
Your rear is, I believe 1" wider 1/2" per side.
I think as of now:
F-8x18 4.75 BS
R-10x18 5.5 BS
I have called and changed to this thus far!!
I think this would equate to something similiar to what you are running!!
I have until Mon 9/6 to change!!
Thanks all!!

Kevin,

Mine are 9X18 on the front and 10X18 on the rear.
I have been looking for any information on what BS they are and I can't find anything. I didn't want to guess and steer you wrong.

Post some pics when you get them, I would love to see them on your car.

Hey Kevin, that would have been great to get such a deal. $400 off, d*mn. Nobody wants to stick their neck out and tell you a 295/45 18 will fit. The b/s you specify SHOULD work. The bottom line is you must trial-fit something close and take careful measurements when you want to stuff a tire that big in there. I don't think you can just order an 18x10 rim with 5- or 6- inch b/s and just expect to bolt it on with a 295/45 and expect it to clear. Even after trial fitting several sets on mine, the guy from the tire store said I would have to SLIGHTLY clearance in one spot-by the body bushing at the rear of the passenger tire. And that was the only spot I did to make it fit. That is a friggin huge tire. The other option is to go with a slightly smaller tire, especially if you dont want any rubbing as mine rub only slightly going up a driveway at an angle. Brad.

Kevin Please post up pictures when you're done. I'm about to start the restoration project on my 67SS convert. Your set up is the way I want to go. Meats out back and skinnies up front isn't my style. In fact it's never been since I owned the car all of these 21 years

67MarinaBlue, yes I will post pics when they arrive. I now have to order Baer brakes and my suspension parts!! I am meeting with a body/paint person soon! Possibly grey mettalic pearl or a candy copper color.
Have you seen the 67 Malibu convertible on Intro wheels site? Page 1 of the gallery
