We are looking to put rally wheels on our 72. Probably 15x8 in the back, and 15x7 in the front. What tire size and wheel back spacing should I be looking for? We want to go fairly wide in the back, but don't want to risk rubbing problems, or have to rebuild the whole rear end. Also, does anybody have a recommendation for buying rally wheels and tires in the Orange County, CA area?

I have 215/70's on 15x7's on the front and 275/60's on 15x8's on the rear of my 72 Chevelle, the wheels are Weld draglites and both have 4.5" of backspacing and do not rub at all. If you would want a slightly wider front tire and better handling a 235/60 would be a better choice and still look good. Here's a picture although it's not the greatest shot http://public.fotki.com/cmagers/brandons_chevelle/dscn4246.html

I would just get 15x8 w/ 4.5BS all around. My 69 sits at stock height with 225-70/15 up front and 275-60/15 in the rear. In fact I am changing the rear out from 15x10's with 5" BS. Even these did not hit. A 235-60/15 works wery well on the front and will present the car with a little bit of rake on a stock chassis.

I don't know how guys get these 275-60 tires on the rear. My 71 has 255-60x15 in the rear on 8" ralley and thats with shaving 1/2" off the inside fender lip on each side. The only way I see it, is if the ride height of the rear is with the edge of the wheel well, well above the top of the tire. My wheel well edge is down a couple of inches into the tire. I also use 235-60x15 on 15x7 ralley in front. Thats my set for now.

Also Duane, Pomona swap meet had tons of ralley wheels there today, Sun. 29. You would ask for the stock ralley wheel offset which most of them are. But you better check before buying

Use wheels with the correct backspacing and 275's will fit easily, even 295's or 315's.

Clint, is that 8x15 Vette ralley wheel available in very many different sizes of back spacing?? I know stock GM is one size only. Also to clear up 2 posts back, my fender is not actually into my wheel literally, just the wheel sits comfortabally in the wheel well.
BTW, nice tub job on your Elky.

There are so many different Rally wheels out there, you really have to measure what you have.
A 15x8 wheel with 4.5" backspace and 255 tire will easily fit a 68-72 A-body.
