: Pics and ideas for race net installation
Jepprox Aug 21st, 10, 12:21 PM I have my window net (yes i will be racing this in the 1/4 mile) and looking for some ideas for installation. I have a 10 pt. roll cage and i am trying to keep the interior neat and clean. I will be installing another piece of tubing to the roll cage that attaches to both vertical tubes of the cage to protect the driver compartment but i do not think i will be using this crossbar for any attachment points for the window net. The net is designed to fill the entire window area and i am looking for some installation ideas. I would post some pics of the installation kit but there isnt much to it and i plan to fab up my own parts for mounting. Basically the installation kit comes with tube sleeves, the rods that slide into the top and bottom of the net, and the buckle and receptacle. Any ideas and pics would be greatly appreciated!
bracketchev1221 Aug 24th, 10, 8:57 AM Mine is attached to the diagonal bar along the door. Up top the net has a rod through it with the buckle on it. The back of the rod goes into a hole in a welded tab and the front buckle clips into place. The bottom is a rod welded to the main hoop and then the front of the rod is held in place through a tab. I don't think I have any pictures of it right now.
Adam Loose Aug 24th, 10, 9:43 PM I'll get some pics of my setup this weekend when I get to my garage and post them up then.
Jepprox Aug 24th, 10, 11:14 PM I appreciate any pics and ideas. Thanks guys! I was thinking of using a rod end up high on the rear of the main hoop and have the opposite end attach to the buckle which would attach to the other side of the main hoop. The lower part of the net has a solid piece of steel tubing that provides the lower support of the net and this rod could slide into two tube sleeves. Each of these tube sleeves would be installed on either side of the main hoop. I would like the net to lay out of the way when it is not clicked in. Again I appreciate the support!
Adam Loose Aug 31st, 10, 9:29 PM Ok,here's my set up.Here's a pic of the net when not hooked up,it just kinda hangs down aside the seat out of the way.

b-man Sep 1st, 10, 10:24 PM GREAT pix.
Jepprox Sep 2nd, 10, 2:27 AM Adam thank you for taking the time to get the pics and post them! Your installation is very clean and just what i am aiming for. I just had a questin about the upper brackets and how the net attaches to these. Is your top bar spring loaded? What holds the bar upper bar of the net in place? I see that you do not have the typical buckle attaching the upper bar to the chassis. I have been quite busy at work as well but will post some more pics of the setup.
bracketchev1221 Sep 2nd, 10, 10:19 AM One thing I would do is go with the net with the angled bottom. Some tech inspectors do not like the net set up the way it is in the picture. The first thing they have checked for in my car is if the net can slide back. They will pull on the front of the net checking for this. Two parallel rods makes this easier without some kind of net restraint. With the angled bottom, the two rods are at different angles and the net creates its own resistance to sliding. But otherwise, the top of my net anchors the same way in the rear with the buckle up front.
b-man Sep 2nd, 10, 11:11 AM this chevelle has some nice pix to see how mounted......

The upper bar slides into the rear upper bracket/hole then front slides into the front upper bracket that is spring loaded. The front of the upper bar has a nipple like front end that locks into the front spring loaded bracket.

Can you post pics of your setup?
Jepprox Sep 4th, 10, 12:26 PM Here are some pics of my net setup and the roll cage. It is the angled net. Adam i liked the fact yours was spring loaded at the top. I think this is the way to go. I am leaning towards bolting it in on the lower rear main hoop like yours so it can fall towards the side of the seat when not in use for daily driving. The only attachment point left would be the front lower part of the net and how it would attach. I see quite a few guys using the cable bolted to the floor and i suppose that meets race spec.
Bman, thanks for the other pics.
By the way, how do you post pics within the thread? All i am able to do is post the thumbnails. Do you have to upload from a web page?
Adam Loose Sep 4th, 10, 11:14 PM Jepprox,
Yes,I like the fact that it drops down out of the way when not needed. The car is more street than race car anyway.
I just use http://www.imageshack.us/ to upload all my pics. Then I just cut and paste.
Jepprox Sep 5th, 10, 12:05 PM Hey Adam thanks agiain for providing your input and pics. I think i have my plan. Got to order parts now. I will post progress pics once this is done and then it off to welding plates to the floor for the seats and the harness. All to be done after my vacation starting next week.

b-man Sep 13th, 10, 7:59 PM Adam....
Quick question... the belts in your car. You like ... dislike??
are they camlock of latch?
Does that company recert them?
What size ?
(Need to get some belts in quick so I can get down the track before the snow flys..)
bracketchev1221 Sep 13th, 10, 8:37 PM I have the standard RCI belts with the latch buckle. I'm sure they recert them, though it is probably just as much to buy new belts. Mine are 3" with a 2" crotch belt.
b-man Sep 14th, 10, 6:50 AM thanks!
(hate to buy 'dated' stuff at the end of the season...)
Adam Loose Sep 14th, 10, 9:57 PM Yeah, they're ok,RCI,latch, 3" with 2" crotch belts.I usually just buy new ones ,and sell the old ones for half price, then it only costs me half to buy a new set.
