whats the bigest tire u can sqeaze on a 15" rim on a 67 chevelle ? Looking for street strip slicks. What brand tire do u guyz prefer ? Thanks Jason graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I don't know what Slick sizes are available, but I fit a 295/50/15 on 15X8 rims on my 66, with no lip modifications... I still have about 3/4" of space left, but that allows for roof when driving on the street (car leaning, driveways, etc).

If you roll the outer lip, that might give you another inch to use...

I don't know what slick size corresponds to 295-width tires... 295 MM = 11.6 inches, but does that directly correlate to an 11.6 inch slick width?


As for back spacing (based on a 65-67 12-bolt rearend), I think about 4-3/4" is real good for the 15X8 inch wheel WITHOUT the rolled lip. Rolling the lip, then you want a little less BS (maybe 4-1/4 to 4-1/2 inch)... If you have a 68+ rearend, then I think an additional 1/2-inch of BS is needed...
