Ok Gear Heads I know someone out there has been around long enough to know what the maximum 15 or 16 inch tire and wheel combo you can put on a 65 Chevelle with original 12 Bolt housing and stock wheel wells so please save me the time of trial and error as I have a complete drive train change out ongoing plus fuel tank, new fuel line, new rear brakes and lines etc etc;
My 65 currently has Budnik 17x 9.5 on rear and 17 x 8 on front with 215x45x17 all the way around. These wheels would have worked great but the previous owner got the wrong offset or back spacing which ever is correct and with the 215 I have 3/8 inch clearance at the wheel lip and no I am not tubbing it or flaring the fenders thats 1960 all over again. I am replacing the 300 HP crate engine and 350 Turbo with a 480 HP stroker and 700R4 so I want as much rubber as possible without tubbing or flaring. The rear is a brand new 12 blot Posi built by Art Houser but using an original 65 housing that he refubished. I can move the shock mounts over if necessary as I can gring and weld. The 17 inchers clear them with no problems and no runbbing anywhere but I can light them to fumes with the mild motor it had.
Come on people save me some time and aggravation Im an old man and this is first muscle car in 20 years. The car currently has 2 inch lowering springs but I am changing back to stock height and new KYG shocks along with tubular contraol arms in rear. Front has Hotchkiss tubular upper A arm and 12 disc brake kits with Hotchkiss front and rear sway bars and yes I have to remount the rear on the new lower arms.
