Ok Guys I'm about ready to spend a little money on tires... I have the American Racing Rally 15x7 with 4.5 in backspace on rear of my 64 with a current tire of a 255/65-15

Question is Will a 235/60-15 be wider?? I can not go any wider(bulge of the current tire rubs lip slightly every once in a while) at all but would like a little shorter...Any ideas??? Any tire suggestions will be appreciated..Size or Brand..

The 235 tire is narrower than the 255. The 235 and 255 numbers refer to the tire width in millimeters. The 60 and 65 are the aspect ratio of the sidewall to the tire width. The 235/60 will be a smaller diameter tires as well.

The 235 tire will be narrower by a little over 3/4" giving you an additional 3/8" clearance on each side.

A 245 tire will be narrower by approximately 3/8" giving you an additional 3/16" clearance on each side.

So would a 245/60-15 still be a little narrower and smaller than a 255/65-15???

thanks for the info..

Yes the 245 will be narrower, I as stated in my last reply. Here are the calculations for determining the diameter and the width.

Tire Width = Width in millimeters/conversion factor for mm per inch

Tire Diameter = (Tire width in inches X aspect ratio X 2)+ wheel diameter in inches

Example for a 245/60R15 tire:

Tire width = 245mm/(25.4mm/inch)= 9.65"
Tire Diameter = (9.65" X 0.60 X 2)+ 15" = 26.58"
