: 275-60-15 they FIT!!
Bob Markworth Apr 4th, 04, 12:35 PM I just installed a set of 275-60-15 BFG drag radials on my 70' SS Chevelle (12 bolt rear end). Thanks to the help of this site they fit with plenty of room in the wheel well. The tires are on 15 x 8 SS 396 rims from Stockton wheel with a 4.5 inch BS.
I have pictures available.. Thanks to all for the help.
I have mixed filings about the change… with old the 245-60-14 TA’s I could EASEALLY break the tires loose below 25 MPH ….. now NO wheel spin! [img]http://www.infopop.com/artwork/footer_logotype
NYCRAT Apr 4th, 04, 1:56 PM Bob,
I have the same setup 'cept for the brand of rim.
Watch out for sidewall rubbing/cutting if you get on it while turning the wheel ala "donuts" I cut my sides doing that graemlins/clonk.gif well you know what they say live and learn!!!

GRN69CHV Apr 8th, 04, 9:33 PM 2 things here. Depending on 14" wheel rim width, you now have a wider footprint, also you increased your tire diameter by 10%, effectively reducing you rear ratio by 10% ie: 3.55 now is equivalent to 3.23 with the same 245-60/14 tire.
feedphillipnow Apr 9th, 04, 2:36 PM How strange, well not really. I just started a post with the tire+wheel I want to run. And the tires I like are BF Goods 275-60's on 15x8 Torq II's. This is on a 71'
Bob, what year did these go on? I think the backspacing is less than that on these though. Err, I'll check.
flywheel Apr 10th, 04, 12:01 AM Iv got the 275-60-15's on torg thrust w/4.5 bs on my elky.Fit fine.Little taller than I'd like, may go with a 275-50-15 next...

Sean C Apr 14th, 04, 10:50 PM hey guys.....wondering if I could get 275-60-15's on the rear of my 64 SS with a 4" backspacing?
Sean C Apr 14th, 04, 10:51 PM Also, if the backspacing # is larger that means the tire will sit deeper in the wheel well right?
So, what I mean is a 4.5" BS will keep the tire under the wheel well further than a 4".
three85stroker Apr 17th, 04, 1:09 AM Building on what GRN69CHV said, to regain the performance lost by switching to a larger tire, assuming you had a 3.55 rear you would need approx a 3.90 rear to regain the mechanical advantage.
