OK guys, I need some help! I have a 67 Malibu that only gets out for 600 miles or so, to shows and cruises in the summer, hence the wheels have not been off for a couple years. As I noticed a rt front tire starting to "cup," I decided to rotate the tires today. Apparently 2 left front wheel studs are rotating in the hub, as the nuts are turning hard, but not backing off. Anyone run into this before? The wheels are Crager S/S, with McGard nuts over drum brakes.

Try heating the stud/nut ,maybe you can get it to expand and tighten up in the flange.

I had that same problem last year with one stud. I ended up using my trusty dremel with a cut off wheel. I was able to get just enough room between the back of the nut and the rim. Zipped it off and put in a new stud. Good luck

I had a stud break flush on the rear axle and what was left felt like it was welded on. I had to drill it out to remove it. I ended up shaving some material off the splines in the axle, and although it felt tight when I put in a replacement stud, it now spins.

Thanks guys; I ended up cutting the cap off with a hole saw. pryed the cap retainer out, got the hub nut off, and pulled the wheel & hub off together. Then still had to drill the heads off the studs. Does anyone know where I can find specs, to see if the hole for the stud is worn, as I don't want to do this again!

You can go to a larger diameter Moroso lug nut for drag racing if the new studs will not fit right. I beleive the Moroso studs are .480 as compared to a .465 for stock. I believe I used a 31/64 drill bit to ream out the stock holes enough for the larger bolts. If you decide to go this route email me and I will go to the shop to verify the drill bit and Moroso stud diameter as I have several extra in case I break anything. :D
