: Anyone have a picture of a 67 SS w/ Cragars?
emdoller Mar 7th, 04, 3:38 PM I'm giving up on the "all original" 67 Chevelle SS look and throwing out my 14" Ralley wheels.
I'd like to go with a set of Cragar SS wheels but need to determine which wheel size to go with (15, 16, or 17"). I've read the 16" are not great simply due to tire selection.
I'm looking for pictures of 67's with Cragar SS wheels... anyone have pictures, please post or send. Your help is much appreciated!!
Thanks - Ed
Jonathan Mar 7th, 04, 10:24 PM Ed, I've got a few pictures of my '67 project. I don't have Cragars, but I have similar 15" 5-spoke American Racing wheels. The pictures are kinda big (~1 Meg each), but I can e-mail them if you like.

Thanks,

SibbsSS Mar 9th, 04, 11:49 PM Here is a link to my car. It is a 66 with 17" American Racing Torque Thrust II's. It will give you an idea of what this style wheel will look like on your 67.

Dale Eikmeier Mar 14th, 04, 3:15 AM Ed,
I've read your posts with interest because I also lean towards orginiality, but enjoy the modified look. Which is why the idea of "period correct" appeals to me. Think about vintage 67 style Cargars S/S or Torque Thrust style wheels. 15 inch wheels would be a good period correct size, since the 16/17/18 inch wheels are more modern.

Do you mind sharing the wheel/tire sizes and offsets? I'm looking to do exactly that combo on my '67.
Bo6869ChevelleMan Mar 14th, 04, 9:54 AM Ed, I have a set of 15"x8" 4" 3/4 bolt pattern,5-bolt hole Cragar S/S wheels that I had bought for my 69 Chevelle SS. I took the brand new wheel out of the box and slid the wheel on the rear just to see how it would look and it looked fabulous. With just enough wheel clearance . Ive sold my 69 SS since then and bought a 68 Chevelle Malibu. Guess I'll put them on the 68 someday. Ed go with the 15 inch wheel because there are so many different tire sizes and widths that are available. I went with 15x8" wheels on the back, and was going to get 15x7" for the front. Get a Summit catalog and you will see how many different size tires that you can get in 15"dia. Also has your Cragar S/S wheels in it too. Thats where I bought mine from, cant beat their price and shipping. GOOD LUCK. Mark --------------------------------------1968 Chevelle Malibu (Weekend Cruiser) And Soon To Be: 1968 El Camino
emdoller Mar 14th, 04, 4:20 PM So luckily I had a friend who had a set of 16" Cragar SS wheels I could try out. These wheels look amazing on his red '70 El Camino.
Im my opinion they do not look good on my 67. Not sure if it's the color of the car, the year, or perhaps the fact that they are 16".
Anyway, I'm going to refinish the original mag wheel covers and put them on!
Check for yourself...

emdoller Mar 15th, 04, 7:53 PM It must be the 15" vs the 16". For some reason when you go from the 15 to 16 the wheel looks radically different.
I agree the 15"s look great!
If I can't find the mag wheel covers in good shape, than it's 15" Cragars!
kevinc Mar 16th, 04, 7:21 AM Emdoller,
I agree that the 16" Cragers don't look right on your '67. I think it may be that the stance of your car may be too high??? Would it be possible if you have a friend sit on the front of the car to lower the front end and I think it would look better. Could you take another picture and then we could compare. Seems like if someone goes with bigger diameter wheels, the car needs to be lowered a little. If you look at the '67 LeMans that 67lemanster has linked, the car was lowered a little and the wheels look like they belong on the car.
