Ok I am getting stuff ready to put a LQ4/T56 combo in my 69 Chevelle and have a couple questions. First I bought a set of adapter plates but after realized there was a 1" set-back option that I did not get, I plan on moving the frame stand anyways so is it a big deal that I didnt get the set-back plates? Next is the accessory drive, I have a truck set-up right now but have a lead on a complete f-body set-up and was wondering which would be easier to get set-up? And the only reason I ask is because a lot people use the f-body set-up with these conversions. Thanks for the help.

The F body setup may put the a/c compressor back too far if you plan to keep it. otherwise the f body setup is OK. However you will have to change everything on the front of the block not just the rotating assembly. I used my truck setup but it was in a 64 a little tighter than yours.

I used the 1" setback plates, they put the engine very close to the firewall, using smallblock frame stands. I only run the waterpump and alternator on the motor, and I built my own bracket to locate the alternator low on the drivers side. it JUST BARELY fit. I dont really have a good pic of that.

Something to watch out for when using F-body/GTO accessories on an A-body swap is that the alternator is usually "REALLY" Close to the steering box. The Corvette accessories seem to be a better fit for stock components. The Truck accessories seem to fit, but you have to be careful about the alternator clearance to the hood. I'm working on a GTO LS2 going into my 70 Chevelle and I'm planning on using This http://www.kwikperf.com/lsx_alt_ps.html to move the GTO alternator and power steering pump to the "Vette" locations with the F-body/GTO setback locations.

These brackets can also take your truck accessories and move them to the GTO/F-body locations rather cheaply...

The guy I bought the motor from is suppose to give me the truck acc, but I don't know that I can count it. I just bought a set of f-body acc simply because the guy gave me a really good deal and I should be able to sell whatever set-up I don't use if I get the truck stuff. I would like to do the vette stuff as I a very fimilar with that set up (just sold my 01 supercharged Z06). If I can't get either if these to work like I want I will most likely try the kwik performance set-up. I also am pretty sure I am just going to stick with the standard plates and move the frame stands to where I want the motor and drill new hole accordingly.

So before I did mine, I was told the motor will be in and out at least 5 times. I was 9 times getting things set correctly before I did any welding or cutting or drilling. My suggestion is to set up the truck stuff try the motor, set up the f-body try the motor and if it doesn't fit order the kwik setup otherwise you will have things welded or drilled for one setup and it wont work for the other.

Yup that's the plan, see what fits best and then make it fit better.

One thing you may or may not be aware of is how the length of the block is different on the LSX engines versus the 'ol Small block. The LSX has the bellhousing mounting face pretty much flush with the rear of the right cyl head. The traditional smallblock has about a 1-1/4" 'extension' on the engine block. So if the transmission (and thus the bellhousing face) remains fixed in place in the car, bolting up an LSX engine to that bellhousing puts the head that 1-1/4" closer to the firewall.
