: Day at the Strip (auto-x) lawrenceville, IL
tommycomfort Jul 21st, 10, 10:12 PM Just some pictures of us thrashing our 66 last Saturday. I think I got 40 or so runs, and my wife around 20. What an absolute blast! The car was pushing hard so I think I am going to give 275/40-17's a try up front before messing with spring rates and sway bars.

SMALLBLOC Jul 21st, 10, 11:37 PM Great seeing these hot rods being driven dard, good job, car looks great! More people should race their cars, get to know themselves and their cars, and their capabilties.:thumbsup:
tommycomfort Jul 22nd, 10, 8:37 AM We definitely drive it and play with it! Since Memorial day weekend we've put just under 2000 miles on it even with it being down for a quick engine rebuild... I never would have dreamed it would be so much fun to auto-x and track to its limits and ours.

Derek69SS Jul 22nd, 10, 8:39 AM Cool! Car looks great
Looks like you could use a little more air pressure though... I run 44psi Front and 40psi Rear when autocrossing on 265/40s
93Polo Jul 22nd, 10, 10:01 AM Looks like a good time and you had knowledgable autoxer there to bounce some questions off of.
Scotch Jul 22nd, 10, 10:07 AM WTG man! Sure beats sitting in a lawnchair! LOL!
jthomp1256 Jul 22nd, 10, 10:15 AM does it have a mini tub ????
RYU Jul 22nd, 10, 11:05 AM Awesome! I just spent a solid 10 mins looking at your 4 pictures thinking to myself...
* it's nice to know you can fit that much rubber up there.
* i wonder what suspension he's running
* is it auto or stick?
and... is that a matte black C2 corvette I see in the side?

Derek, I would have never guessed running more pressure would be the right answer for auto-x, but we'll give it a whirl next time around.

No tub at all and have plenty or room for the Kumho Ecsta MX 285/40-17 and really think I will be going to a 295/35-18 when vintage wheel works comes out with their 18's. Or when Forgeline, Fikse, Budnik, Rushforth or one of the other big names decides to give me a new set of wheels... ;-)

*Yep, 285/40-17 rears and 255/40-17 in the front and I really think there is more room
*The suspension is a mess of vendors, but most importantly is DSE coilovers and ATS spindles.
*Tremec Viper 6 speed
* And that is Brian Finch's 66 Vette. I took some rides in it and all I can say is WOW!
tommycomfort Jul 22nd, 10, 4:36 PM Here's the link to my photobucket deal with all 32 pictures.

Brian took me for a ride in a '69 Camaro with DSE suff under it at the Peachstate Motor Challenge. He is very quick. The '67 Vette was there too, you're a lucky man to get in it everyone at PSMC stepped out of the car with a big smile (and maybe shaking a bit).
Not sure if you played with it, but your '66 has a very nice stance.
Blitz Jul 22nd, 10, 8:12 PM Love the action shots. You guys with the 66's make it tempting. Hahaha
Would've thought those VWW 18's would be out by now. I even asked them about producing 20's stating that not only would a few Chevelles run 'em but likely plenty of old trucks and BelAirs too. lol Nothing yet.
steve_sutherland Jul 22nd, 10, 9:39 PM Thats awesome!

Yeah, it helps a lot to keep the tires from rolling over so much which makes the handling feel more "crisp" and keeps a bigger & more even contact patch. :)
Zanie Jul 23rd, 10, 4:24 PM Dang!
I am so mad that I didn't go. i had all sorts of plans to get things accomplished around the house & garage, but the heat drained my energy and I got little done. I should have driven the 5 hours down to Lawrenceville, instead.
Canadian67 Jul 23rd, 10, 4:39 PM That is one slick looking ride. I am debating on painting my 67 silver as well. And the tire package sure looks sharp as well. I am going to PM you if that's ok about some stuff about your car if that's all right.

Man, you missed one great time! I'm still mad we didn't get our wagon back together so we had two vehicles to thrash.
