Sorry if this has been gone over before. I'm thinking it's time for a new convertible top for my ride. Light blue car, white top. The frame is fine, just need somebody to do it right for me. About how much $$ should I have to spend? Nothing fancy just a job well done.

And while I'm at it, anybody have a shop in Cleveland, OH?

Thanks-

I did mine for I think $120 was the cost of the top kit at the time. Was a PITA because I never did one before but it came out good. You can actualy afford to screw it up a few times for what it cost to have somebody do it for you.

If your top is $120, sure give it a try. A more expensive top wouldn't be something to mess up I wouldn't think.
I was quoted $1200 or so to remove my old top and frame and replace it with a new top and solid donor frame (both of which I already bought).

It was cheep I thought so I figured what the hec why not go for it.It worked out as good as I think it could have had sombody did it for me so will do it again when I replace this one with the high end cloth top next time.

I wasn't arguing with you; I was agreeing. Considering my frame needs to be replaced as well and I have a cloth top to go on I don't feel my situation would be well-suited to the homebrew approach. If I were just slapping a vinyl top on a good frame I too would probably say what the hell and give it a go.

Just a thought...in spite of what a few might say, putting a new top on is not all that difficult. You can do it yourself. Get a pneumatic staple gun and some good 3M contact adhesive and dig in !! Carefully remove the old one taking pictures and notes as you go (if necessary) and reverse the process to install the new one. $1200 to $1500 is a lot of money for a top that you can buy for $250-350! Sometimes I think these upholestry shops think they've got a sucker when you drive in with a convert!! You may need new pads (not expensive) and I'd look closely at the cables....if rusty or fraying buy new...if not reuse 'em. Another thought...find someone who's done a few and give him a case of brew to help you!! You can get info on the web or possibly this site for do-it-yourself instructions if you think you need some help. Good luck, have some fun and save a bundle!!

There is a place in Berea called Jim's Trim shop that does great work. I had them do some work for me and did a great job. Not sure on what it would cost but you could give them a call.

I dropped the car off at Bedford Auto Trim, they've done some work for a pal of mine- Should should come to about a grand for the top and work they need to do for me. They are also going to re-stuff the back seat for me, bottom and back. (about $75 each). They agreed to the schedule I needed, I'm leaving today for a couple of weeks. I'll let you guys know how it comes out with some pics. Thanks as usual for the guidance.

Bedford Auto Trim (Cleveland, OH) did a nice job with the top for my Malibu. Came to about $1400 altogether for the top. Very nice folks, too.
