I can't figure out a way to search for two terms: like "alternator AND mark viii" The site will search for every thread with alternator OR mark viii , but not both.

Help please.

This is how I do it, though straight through google.

Not ideal but it works.

I know, I just asked a question.

Dean,
I did try them seperately, then together, and then with "+" between them. The issue here is that when you search for "alternator" with any other terms, you get results that include every post asking: what type of alt do i need, why doesn't my car shut off, etc. Every reference to any alternator thread. I, on the other hand, am looking for post which reference alternators and mark viii electric fans.

What I am looking for is a little insight into how the search function really works.

I don't know Scott, curious myself, that's why I was asking what you had tried with the -> ahead of the question.

Looks like you found the answer above.

I just use google, it's superior for most ways you would want to search these forums anyway.

If you can't remember the syntax, their advanced search page guides you. They also have a tips page to explains it a bit.

The link I posted brings up 173 of them, which I would think is at least most of them.

Dean,
Sorry if I came across as snappy, just frustrated when I get 30 pages of hits and I am looking for a specific issue.

All,
I tried the google search, works well. Tried "" and +, but not together until I read the thread. Thank you all....

Just a fleeing thought, had I used the search function, I could have answered my own questions about the search function!!! Anybody else think we should have this information posted on the Advanced Search page??

Yes.

Putting a message on the advanced search page is a win-win deal. Users get better search results, faster. The server running this website also benefits, little less load if fewer people make it perform the search.
