: Best place to get Torq Thrust II's
gigem Feb 21st, 04, 4:34 PM OK, I've made up my mind.
Rear - 15x8 American Racing Torq Thrust II's, custom 4.5" backspace. Tires - Radial T/A 275/60/15.
Front - 15x7 American Racing Torq Thrust II's, custom 4" backspace. Tires - Radial T/A 235/60/15.
Yes, I know everyone has these wheels. I like them, so that's what I am getting.
Anyone done the research to tell me where the cheapest place to order these might be?
Also, last call on the backspacing... Anybody think these WON'T fit on my 72? Stock ride height (restored with new springs), stock rearend (nothing narrowed), no mods done (or wanted) to the wheelhouses.
I feel like I've researched this to death, and I'm pretty positive they will fit. Just wanted to ask one last time, since I can't return custom backspace wheels...
Thanks
RussD Feb 21st, 04, 8:00 PM My local tire store would have beat summit by 150 bucks for the set of 17's, about $33 cheaper for each. Buuut, at that time TT II's were on nationwide backorder and the only "stocking" places were Summit and Jeg's. IMHO, Summits price isn't out of line on the price at all.
Same here I bought my 16x8s cheaper locally than Summit before their handling charge and they had the locals had them in stock and no hassle about getting tires mounted on them. Now if I could only get the locals to be competitive on Weld Racing Wheels graemlins/angry.gif
kamino69er Feb 21st, 04, 10:37 PM I got mine from Discount Tire. They beat the competitors price too.
jamie Feb 22nd, 04, 4:41 AM theres a dude selling them off ebay. i bought a set of 4 17 X 8 for about 800 bucks delivered. he seemed cool enough. i got what i wanted and it was cheaper than anywhere else i found.
ToocoolZ28 Feb 22nd, 04, 1:22 PM Those will fit perfect. I have the same size wheels and tires on my 70 but I have 4 1/4" backspacing on the rears and I could use a little more space by the rear 1/4 lip.

Ron I'm pricing the wheels out, and now I wonder if I really need to go custom on the fronts. Will the standard 3.75" backspace work on 15x7 with P235-60's? Do I need that last .25"? Going with standard BS would save a ton of dough (almost $100 per wheel). What do you have on the front?
Clint44 Feb 22nd, 04, 3:56 PM You will be fine with your first choice.
ToocoolZ28 Feb 22nd, 04, 7:43 PM 3.75 will work on the front with 235/60/15s with no problem, I have plenty of room. I could go with a bigger tire, I wish I had gone with 255/60/15s on the front.
Make sure you go with at least 4 1/4 on the rear though.

They beat everyone's price, and when he called American on the phone, they had some 15x8's TT2's with the 4.5" backspace in stock, so I'll get them next week instead of waiting for a month.
