currently have 550# springs in front with hotchkis shocks, and 11" 175# springs in rear with stock shocks.

i need to replace the rears, and would like to atleast keep a matching set of shocks.. will the hotchkis (revalved bilsteins) work good with that heavy of a spring?

thanks

The Hotchkis Bilsteins would work great with that spring. 175# isn't a real heavy spring to me (coming from someone who put 350# on the El Camino).

I had a 180 rate rear spring on the car for 4 years with KYB's. This year went to a 167 rate spring with the same shock. Compression wasn't an issue, but in retrospect, was nowhere near enough rebound control. Think most stock replacement shocks are the opposite of what we need in that they have way too soft rebound. Had a good talk with AFCO. Dropping to a 143 rate spring, but more importantly, swapping the rear shocks to their 1035, 40/60 shock (3 compression/5 rebound).

interesting..

i ask because i need shocks because of my 11" tall springs in the rear, and when the rear droops the spring wants to fall out.

That's another issue. Seems to me you just need to ID a stock mount shock with less extension. I was only referring to rate. Tech support at AFCO was very good on the phone. Took the time to listen and discuss what I wanted to accomplish. Id give them a call.

Thanks man. I will have to try them.
My stock height stocks now are pretty much bottomed out at ride height and it rides stiff in the back. Hence the need to change. I will keep my options open, but for now I just thought of atleast matchig the shocks front to back.
