Okay... novice at work here so if this sounds stupid, I appologize.
I am having a problem with getting gas in my oil on my '70 LS-5 chevelle. I checked the floats, they are fine and the carb is not overfilling. I cleaned them anyway. Changed the oil... drove it about 30 miles, checked it, the oil seems very thin and discolored on the dipstick, and smells like gas. Then after searching the threads on this forum I learned that the fuel pump could be the problem. I changed the mechanical fuel pump, changed the oil (again), and drove it about 30 miles again. Still, the oil seems very thin and kind of blackish already on the dipstick, and still smells like gas.
Does anyone know what else could be causing this problem? The manifold looks a little stained as if fuel was puddling in it at one time, but I don 't see it leaking there now. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
