Can Anyone tell me what if any, the differences are between the 1971 & 1972 SS and the Z28 wheel of the 70'S? Is the offset & back space the same? Thanks for any input.
Gary.

The Chevy part number never changed to reflect these minor differences. I took it that the only difference is in the year of the wheels, and the size/shape of the stem hole.

I "think" the backspace/offset is the same for all of the applications for those wheels.

I went through this last year myself, and learned all about the differences and made sure I got the correct ones for my '72 El Camino.

Regarding the early 70's Z28 and 71/72 Chevelle / El Camino wheels, these vehicles used the same wheels. The differences are the exception of the oval valve stem holes as Stegmillers explanation describes. Later wheels for Z28 starting in 1976 or 7, have a distinct difference. If you understand what they are your eye will be trained to spot them, they are:

- Round valve stem holes
- the wheel spokes are flatter rather than a nice radius spoke for the early wheels.
- the spokes have have a fabrication machine flat areas close to the center
- the center section lip area (where the trim ring sits) is actually shorter showing more of the inside edge of the trim ring (shiney area)
- the center cap section of the wheel is smaller in diameter, (are you struggeling to get on and off those center caps ??) thats why.

Hope this helps,

David
