I bought this BB alternator bracket (http://www.ss396.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=chevellecamino&Product_Code=AAB-4500&Category_Code=ALTERNATOR) from GU, but it doesn't fit? I have a BB with short water pump and power steering pump with remote reservoir. Both power steering and alternator are mounted on driver side.

This bracket doesn't even come close to fitting  The bracket says 1967-68 BB Camaro, but I guess they are the same thing. I wondering if I might have the wrong water pump?

Sure its not a small block bracket? The pump would normaly have a bolt hole located at the top of the water pump and the lower part of the bracket goes there and the upper part goes to the intake thermostate area.At least thats what that bracket lookes like.

I have no idea if it's for a small block or big block. The only marking are the sticker that says 67-68 camaro. My invoice shows the correct one though.

I thought it went into the lower hole on water pump and then that threaded hole in top left corner of head?

Negative....It goes on the upper water pump stud (driver side) to the intake mount located in the front of the intake roughly inline with the temp sender......Your bracket does resemble a big block bracket from what I can see........

Bill,
Not sure if you're needing a factory correct look or not but I've got the complete Alan Grove PS/ALT brackets and pulley setup from my '67 SWP big block.
It allows use of the Saginaw self contained PS pump (common SB style) and also gives plenty of room for tall valve covers. Eliminates the need for a seperate fluid reservoir and hose.
Email if interested...

Agreed - something is wrong; this is how it should go, minus the dirt, peeling paint, rust, and incorrect nuts/bolts ... :D

Bill, it looks like the right bracket. The small block one has different offset. The upper hole is about two inches offset from the lower hole on the big block bracket. The upper hole bolts to the intake manifold. I can't tell from your picture what intake you have but you have the bracket to low. Check Dave's picture.

Bill, ditto what the other guys are telling you. I don't want to add to your frustration, but even if it's the right bracket, you may have a problem. If your intake is an Edelbrock, the upper mounting boss for the alt. bracket is slightly lower vertically than the GM originals for early big blocks. I had to weld additional metal to the bracket and re-drill the mounting hole in it to match up to the Eddy mounting boss. Edelbrock didn't do us any favors on this one.:noway:
Here's a video of mine running with the modified bracket.

Thanks for all of the info. I now realize I already had an original BB alt bracket, and I thought it was for a SB because it didn't fit .:clonk: I'll see what I can do about modding the bracket to fit (I'd do it on the repop though, not the original)

Bill, I'm trying to keep a somewhat stock look, although I don't know why. Nothing is original, but was just trying to make it look that way I guess

It looks like you have an airgap intake.
Does it have a boss on the front for the bracket to bolt to?

Yes, it does, but it's about an inch below the mounting hole of the bracket

I have that same alternator bracket, and it didn't fit at all right out of the box.
Dremeled the holes into slots until I could actually get both holes to line up.
Then I had to weld, hammer, and grind those two areas to fill in the top of the slots and contour the outside radius on the lower hole so it would clear the water pump.

The cast iron lower bracket needed modification of it's bolt holes to get them to line up with the head. I was unhappy with the alignment of the large pivot bolt as well, so it got redrilled and bushed to correct the problem.

I am disappointed in the quality and fitment of so many of the repop parts coming from Asia, I now consider repop parts a last resort option.
