Erik's 64

Will 15x8" Rallys fit on a 64 Chevelle front and back? What backspace would work so that the tires could be rotated (all the same size and backspace) and not rub. What tire size would work best? I saw the other post about this same thing, but it was not conclusive. Does anyone have this combo without rubbing problems? Thanks for the help.

Before I updated the wheels on my '65, I had 15x8 Rally wheels on the rear with 4.5" backspacing. The tires were 255/60-15's and they fit fine with no rubbing, but were a little tight with about 3/8-1/2" clearance on the outside. With 11" rear drum brakes, the only way to get them on and off was to raise the car and disconnect the lower shock mounting in order to lower the axle and get more clearance to remove the wheel and tire. On the fronts I had 15x7's with 4" b.s. and 215/60-15 tires. My car is lowered 1.5" in the front and I know that 15x8's would have caused interference problems. My friend's '65 has 15x7 Rally's on the front with 235/60's and stock ride height, and there is a slight rubbing problem when turning a corner and the suspension compresses.

Erik, I run 15x8 rallys, with 245-50 tires all the way around with no rubbing at all.Ralph smile.gif

Sorry graemlins/clonk.gif I was wrong they are 15x7 with 4.5 backspace. The 15x8's were to big to go under the fender wells, would work if they were reworked.
