Well I don't really know where to put this. But after seeing the cold air intake setups that were posted I figure it would be best here. This isn't in relation to the cowl hood set up, but more along the lines of the camaro cowl induction set up like this one

Could this set up work on a chevelle/el camino if I were to fabricate an air cleaner set up that would bring it to the firewall? I feel like it would, the only problem would be water getting in?

Has anyone tried this before? I searched "cowl induction" but most pertained to hoods

i believe that setup was first designed by GM engineers for use on BelAirs and Impalas used in NASCAR racing in the early 60's, then i believe Smoky Yunick used it in his infamous 66 Chevelle...
edit- yup- here's Smoky's setup..

If you cut the firewall holes a little above the "floor" of the cowl, then you shouldn't get "water" into the system. You might get some, but it shouldn't be enough to hurt anything. Even in an extreme downpour, how much standing water do you think will be up in the cowl area? If its clean, most water should migrate quickly to the lower cowl area...

That looks great .....but where is the flex joint ...on the firewall?

On mine? Look at the finished pics, I have about a 1" wide rubber strip connecting the two.

Even though it's not really needed with solid engine mounts.

Wow Mark that looks awesome, and was exactly what I was imagining. Is the car running now? and any problems yet?

Yeah, it's done and running. No problems that I know of, but it doesn't have a lot of miles on it.

That cowl plenum/air cleaner is absolutely beautiful! A real work of art. Nice job! I would really love to have one!

One side affect of this modification is the change in noise transmission. That air intake is pulling from the cowl right next to the A/C and header intake. I suspect the noise will transmit very well right from the one to the other and then into the cabin. Could be good or very bad depending on your tastes.
