I havent had a problem but I use IE8 with plugins and Firefox. Most I get are banners for SC&C and stuff like that. I dont see them at all. But if they do target ads by past searches and you guys are seeing them then maybe check in with your sons and ask if they ever been asked to leave the locker room at the gym for loitering or if anyone in a stall next to them has ever commented on their "wide stance". Then tell them to buy their own computer.

I'm guessing its only us non-payers that see this stuff, actually quite a bit of gay ads showing up. Considering this is a brand new computer and this is the very first time it has been on the net, its not picking up on previous searches as I had also thought reading through this thread at first.

I dont particularly want to see this stuff either, but I dont really care. I refuse to pay just so i dont have to see ads for gay sites. I will say however "The Don" is an absolute idiot if he thinks this is going to help attract new people to this site. If I were visiting for the first time and saw this sort of stuff I would never return. If I were a site sponsor I also would no longer be associated with a site that runs this sort of advertising, but thats just me.

My posting is not really about the ads John. I can't control the ads. I could complain, but it's really not something I'm interested in extending a lot of effort about. I paid 20 some dollars to be a life time member and I was paying 35 a year before that. Easy decision. Maybe I won't love everything this site will become. But, I've made lots of friends here (hey JR!), sent members lots of parts (CJLandry) and had great help from lots of folks here (thanks Skip!).

This is a Google ad problem; I would bet this is not a choice of those who now run this site. I am not sure if an administrator can pick an ad package or something (say sex, cars, gun oriented ads?), but I would guess you are pretty much tied into what ads Google chooses to push on you. That's why we see Toyota ads, Ford ads...9 times out of 10, I see car ads on this site.

That being said, if one simple hyperlink that says "Gay Singles" is an ad that keeps this site around, and not one single person from TC patronizes that site, who is the loser here? We all win because it helps keeps the site up, they lose because no business is generated from that particular hyperlink or ad. Seems to me the Gay dating site needs a better gaydar to target people who actually give a crap about what they are offering... :D

Apparently TC isn't the only forum the ads are showing up on and it seems there have been similar conversations on those forums about them. This is the first I've seen them though and I don't like it. Some people don't seem to mind. I do.

As I mentioned in the beginning of this thread, I don't care what people do in private. As long as they aren't hurting anyone I don't see where it's anyone's business but their own. It is a different story though when it's in your face at every turn. I have retreated as far as I'm going to. I don't see where I should have to change browsers or pay a fee just to avoid it. First,lets be honest about the ad so the paying members that dont see it are honestly up to speed. The ad is quite simply a man of color placing a smooch on the cheek of a white man. Nothing more, nothing less. It is NOT two men kissing. I prefer my sexual lifestyle as a straight male, but anyone that is offended by a man kissing the cheek of another man better stay away from Europe where that is a common practice in everyday life, no matter your sexual preference.

Also, for someone that is so upset about the ad, making a thread about it was 100% the wrong thing to do as google will pick up on how many times those words are used here and the ad isnt about to go away or get less frequent, so pretty dumb move there too in my opinion.

First,lets be honest about the ad so the paying members that dont see it are honestly up to speed. The ad is quite simply a man of color placing a smooch on the cheek of a white man. Nothing more, nothing less. It is NOT two men kissing. I prefer my sexual lifestyle as a straight male, but anyone that is offended by a man kissing the cheek of another man better stay away from Europe where that is a common practice in everyday life, no matter your sexual preference.

Also, for someone that is so upset about the ad, making a thread about it was 100% the wrong thing to do as google will pick up on how many times those words are used here and the ad isnt about to go away or get less frequent, so pretty dumb move there too in my opinion.

Also please excuse me for not being as internet saavy as so many here seem to be. It should be pretty clear that my intent was to express my dissatisfaction with the ads in the hopes of getting them removed, not provide them with enough hits on key words that would result in more of them.

I have to admit I'm more than a little suprised at the amount of static I've gotten over this thread. That doesn't bother me though since most of has been from people that either have some compulsion to stir the pot, have an over inflated opinion of themselves or just plain don't understand where I'm coming from. I am relieved though that there some here who obviously understand what I'm talking about.

Like I said, I would prefer not to see them as well, but I also would prefer not to see any of the ads. I myself am no more offended by this ad than I am any ford or non-chevy vehicle on a clearly chevy specific site.

The ad in question in my opinion is no more vulgar, or smutty than anything on normal television. I have seen far worse on network tv than what that ad has in it.

I truely would love to hear an honest answer but I know it will never happen, as to how many would not only not disapprove but actually like seeing the same ad if it was 2 women instead of 2 men? My guess is the very same ad with 2 women would get a totally diffrent response here, a completely diffrent thread applauding that ad.

Obviously our gay members understand that this is not the place to share that aspect of their lives and I thank them for that. Whether their choices are right wrong or indifferent, I just don't believe that TC is the right place for it. That's my opinion. I've expressed it as clearly as I can without trying to be offensive, insulting or inconsiderate. I hope they can appreciate that. It's called mutual respect, which seems to be a dying concept 'round these parts anymore.

I would think that this site would be concerned with non paying members, because they would most likely become paying members at some point. I mean where are looking for new members? Right under your nose would be a good start.

I would imagine that someone who has been here for a couple of years would have become a paying member member by now if he was going too. :yes:

I dont particularly want to see this stuff either, but I dont really care. I refuse to pay just so i dont have to see ads for gay sites. I will say however "The Don" is an absolute idiot if he thinks this is going to help attract new people to this site. If I were visiting for the first time and saw this sort of stuff I would never return. If I were a site sponsor I also would no longer be associated with a site that runs this sort of advertising, but thats just me.

I have never had a change of heart. At no point ever have I cared what was on those banner ads. My original post says I dont particularly want to see this stuff either, as I said in another post, I dont want to see any ads. I couldnt care less what type of ads they are, I dont want to see them. I also fully understand it is very simple for me to not see them, but it isnt worth it for me to pay to simply not see them, Im not bothered nearly enough, I have the capability to just simply not look at the ads, very simple concept.

I am not afraid of gay people, I am not a homophobe, and at some point in the course of becoming an adult I have come to the realization that if two men or two women fall in love and are happy, then I will be happy for them finding something in their lives that makes them happy. I will never concern myself with the affairs of others when I do not have my own affairs in order 100%.

You are trying to come across as the nice guy by saying you dont care if others are gay, but that is a straight up lie. If this picture is offensive to you, as minor as it is, you are a homophobe, very clearly. I have not seen the ad till today. It would not go away. Heres what I did. Above the ad on the left click on ads by google, then at the right on that page click on Ads Preferences Manager , make sure your interest category is all automotive or whatever your interest are. Also clear your browsing history to clean up your computer.

Totally agree with the OP. I'm not "afraid" of gays and their lifestyle I just dont want to see it. I'll leave it at that as to not antagonize the topic :thumbsup:

Thanks for the tip Randy. I looked into that and it said I had "cookies disabled" and that I'd have to change it to make any preference changes. I'll have to look into whether or not I want to do that.

I am closing this as it has gone way downhill. Criticizing the ads is fine but the bickering and insults all around is not what TC is supposed to be about. Don't worry it is flagged by the mods for a response from "PTB".

We are checking into this right now. We are not able to pre-approve ads however, we can exclude them if we know about them. Will get back with any information as soon as it becomes available.

If anyone encounters this ad today, please try to help us out by doing the following... assuming you are running a Windows system:

- with the ad showing, do a screen capture (hit the PrtSc key)
- Open one of: Paintbrush, MS Word or WordPad
- click Edit, Paste in the menus
- save the file
- if the ad is still there, click the right mouse button and click "Copy Link Location"
- send me an email (droy @ autoforums . com )
- paste the link in the email
- attach the file you created above

This will help us track down the source(s) of these ads. Believe me, I don't want them here any more than you do.

OK, the ad has been located and blocked from all of our communities. There are two things...

1) It may take up to 24 hours to clear the pipeline.
2) If the originator chooses to change the URL that the ad points to, it could come back again. We'll need the new URL in order to block them again.
