Looks great:thumbsup:, did you do any body work to the inside of the bed?

Thanks Stacy. The I stripped it down to metal with aircraft paint remover - nasty stuff. Just took my time with it. It doesn't work well in heat so I had to do it in the morning. There were only a few minor dings so I fixed those. I missed two little ones. At this point, I'm not going back and shoot again. You have to look close to see them.

I did assembled a door yesterday and I'm happy with how it came out. I didn't like the aftermarket aluminum window. It came up about a 1/4 inch short where it meets near the handle. They're on good just short. I've heard some have had problems with the door edge guards and scratching paint. Mine went on just fine without messing the paint up at all and they're on good and tight. I think I'm getting weak.....the doors are pretty damn heavy when assembled. HA!

At any rate, the Elco is coming along and in a few "more" years (9 so far) I should have it back on the road.

:D

Wow! You were lucky then. The bed floor/sides in my Elky were rust free, but it certainly wasn't dent free. I spent a couple months banging out dents with a hammer/dolly, and doing the filler work. Your pics look a lot like many resto pictures I took of my 69. It's a lot of work, but in the end, it will be worth it. Keep up the good work, and keep the pics coming.:beers:

Thanks Herbie. I'll keep 'em comin' as I finish stuff.

I didn't have many issues with mine, Bill. I have had the pickup for years and about the only dents anywhere are ones I created. Did you buy your vinyl top from SMS...?

Thanks, again, guys.

That's nice!

Did they send you two pieces? Did you have to sew the piece under the rear window to align with the top two seams after you installed the top piece?

Thanks.

Hey you dont happen to have an xtra one of those metal air shock line thats in your picture near where the license plate would mount?

Bill Rose

Yes, the SMS roof for the ElCamino is in 2 pieces. No sewing. After the main piece of the roof is on, the strip under the back window can be glued down. The seams are just the vinyl, folded over and glued down with vinyl glue.

Not sure which piece you need for the shocks. The line, or the bracket the line attached to?

Thanks Bill. I sent Marc a PM about where he might be able to get that line.

Thank ya sir, they are shut down, they say for rebuilding? I think maybe the economy put the hurt on them. Reviews for this place were LESS than favorable for some reason.Nobody answers the phone but a message is there stating that they will return in in Sept? I left a message there and the website seems to be active so I sent them a "part request" via a link on the site so we'll see what happens. If ya think of another avenue for this part let me know.
Thanks for the help,

Marc S

I'm confused. Is SMS shut down, or the company you contacted, that makes the air line?

Bill,

No....SMS is still around. Marc sent me a PM and I answered him about a place I used to go to. Apparently, they have shut down. They used to be near my house and moved to where they are now. They were a great place to get stuff before they moved. I guess things have gone down hill. It's a wrecking yard. I've seen several of those lines that Marc is looking for years ago at this place. I have no idea if they are currently making them somewhere. He is looking for the metal air shock refill line that comes out the back of the frame and attaches to the rear bumber with the attaching hardware.

You're welcome, Marc. If I find another place or come across one, I'll be sure and let you know. Send this guy (Joe) a message and tell him what you're looking for, he may have it. He's in AZ. Tell him Al sent ya.

Whats the color combo? It looks like Saddle/Gobi beige? What color top? My 70 elk is Gobi/Saddle/Gold top. I might have to change it a little. Can't see having two cream colored cars in the garage.

Curt, my '70 is gobi/saddle buckets/gold top like yours. It, also, has the cowl induction hood, door edge guards, am/fm mono, front bumper guards, black stripe, console, 3.55 posi, M21, L78, instrument package with tach, colored floor mats, all tint windows, CA emissions, heavy duty battery, glove box light and a rearview mirror light. I think that's it....I hope that it....
