I am looking for an air filter for my 69 ss396 chevelle. the motor is stock but has a chrome aftermarket air cleaner, a 3 inch filter hits the hood. any ideas? the filter now is about 2 inches tall.

I have a chrome one that on the bottom plate, it is bevelled downward where it sinks down toward and over the top of carb to let the air filter to be taller and keeps the top chrome lid from hitting the hood. I think it lets the filter drop down 1" or 2" . I am not sure because i am at work and can't measure the filter right now. I think i am running a 4" tall K/N filter on my chevelle. Hope this helps. Trophyman Jul 14th, 10, 12:47 AM Firefighter, had the same thing. I have the plate btw carb and manifold. Caused it to hit with even the dropped air cleaner. Got a filter that was a bit shorter from NAPA. If you need part #, let me know. I'll look it up. Hope I helped. (retired LEO) Thanks for running into burning buildings for us.
