when it was silver the wheels were 17X11" with 5.5" bs and 17X8" with 4.75" bs. Rear tires were 315/35's and the fronts were 245/45's. Yes, the car was minitubbed to fit that size rear tire/wheel combo.

Try here (http://www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=262199). Not all of them are "pro-touring" style cars, but its a pretty good amount of '64-'65 cars on this board.

Here are a couple picture of my 65. Painted it a month ago and just finished aligning and bolting up the sheet metal. I am now working on putting glass, trim, & interior back together. Can't wait to take it for a spin.

I am running 18's front and rear. The front tire are Nitto 555 - 225/45ZR18 & Rear tire are Nitto 555 - 255/45ZR18

I have Hotchkis 1" drop springs in the front and rear and AFX spindles in front which is approx another 3/4 drop. I don't have bumpers and interior in it yet. I would like it a bit lower, will see what happens once I have it all together. Yes the tire sizes should fit however my off set could be different than yours because of the Wilwood front brakes that I had to clear and I have a Moser rear-end that I had narrowed 1" on both sides. Front off set is 4.250 (18X7) and rear is 4.00 (18x8)

You didn't say what stage!

Here we are finishing up all of the final touches on replacing ALL the floor metal, including things they dont make. Needless to say, the outer portion of the homemade mini tubs are getting mocked and completed. All the little imperfections on the bottom of the floor are getting hit and ready for the U-Pol Raptor undercoating.

Hope to be back on the chassis in a couple weeks!!!:beers:

Alan,

That is a good looking 64!

What width wheels are those? 8's? Or different front and rear?

Did you drop the rear at all?

Thanks

Mark -

Wheels in those photos are 15x7 all the way around. Rear in those photos were with the original coil springs.

This photo is with 2" dropped spindles & 1" lowering coils all the way around. I now have 15x6 on the front and 15x7 on the rear.

Nice. That is very close to the look I am going for. I really like the "Real wheel and tire" look, instead of the "big wheel and rubber band" look. I also have to admit that even today I still like raised white letters! I have the 2" drop spindles and was going to put the springs I have back on to see where things stood.

Do you have any rubbing issues? Could you fit wider in the rear? I was thinking 8's and maybe even 9's should fit but don't know. My car is still off the frame waiting on final blocking and paint.

Front wheels would rub a little going up a driveway with the wheels turned.

I think 15x8 with 5" backspacing would work that would be tight and you may have to massage the fender lip on back and it would be close to the shock mount.

I think you could get 245 or 255/60/15 tires on the rear.

what suspension are you running?

L79Man
Aug 14th, 10, 11:58 AM
My '65. Stock suspension with 2 coils cut from front springs and rear at stock height--these are the original coils so some sag factor here. Heavy duty sway bar up front. Tried 3" drop springs up front but had rubbing when turning issues. Do not have drop spindles.

Tires and wheels: 245-45-17s on 17 X 8 wheels all the way around with correct back spacing to not have to roll the fender lips. Not much room for more.

Work in progress, but movin along pretty good! Car itself is pretty much done as far as body, suspension & interior...puttin the 509 together right now, while saving money for everything else, lol! Anyways...my fronts are 15x7 & rear are 15x8 (all 4.5 backspacing)...front tires are 225 60's & rears are 255 60's. 2in dropped spindles & 1in lowering springs in front. Rear springs are cut down a bit but won't set the rear up until I know where the front will sit being complete.

LOL! Man, I'm a fan of the protouring thing for sure, but everything I build ends up looking straight up muscle car style...can't help it! To me, just something about 15in wheels, a little meat dropped down low with an attractive stance! I'm really stoked how this 64 is turning out...little older, little more money, gettin to do everything I've wanted...FINALLY! Sorry, a little off topic...but I gotta say, I'm really impressed with what some of these protouring guys come up with!

Don't have any pics to post but I wish I could catch these 65's that have been running around my area lately. I've seen 3 in the past 3 months and they are always elusive. Saw one on my way home today at about 16:30 and "felt" it before anything. Man it sounded so go. I almost pulled out of the turning lane to chase after him.

I WISH THOSE GUYS WERE ON THE FORUM!!

Jan 19th, 11, 11:29 PM
Yes, no problems at all with 18X9 American Racing Rebels with I believe 5 1/2" of backspacing w/a 275/35/18 tire. I think the combo of boxed lower control arms, new energy suspension bushings KYB shocks with a tire with little to no sidewall to flex= no rubbing at all.
