What is with the ads embedded in the blue margins above and below the posts in every thread??

I just noticed them in the last couple days. It is for Geico at the moment.

I guess the other ads aren't enough for the new regime?

I have that too, but these ones are integrated into the board at the little blue bars just above & below the first and last post in a given thread.

Just a necessary evil to keep this nice site up and running, they really don't bother me and I didn't even notice the Geico ad until now:thumbsup: What really makes me angry is the fact that Geico could not save me 15% on my auto insurance.

I am using Windows 7 with Firefox, I don't see the Geico ads, what OS and browsers are you using, there may be a way to fix the ads from showing up.

You don't see the clickable text Geico ad in the blue border box directly above the first post and directly below the last post in each thread?

I'm using XP Pro and Firefox.

I don't have them while using XP Pro and Firefox, but do when using Internet Explorer.

Nope, I don't see them. Are you using FF 3.6.3? If not, try updating FF by going to Help and check for updates.

I guess I assumed since I am a paying member there would be no ads. I guess as long as they are small it's okay. What am I gonna do stop frequenting the site?

Thats what happens when a company buys out message boards and websites...everything is about money and not about the original intent or "spirit" of the site.

Thats why I wont renew my membership.

I see them.

I figured geico payed the owners money to put it there.

They sure aren't running it for free ... :noway:

I'm not saying it's a huge deal, it is more the principle of the thing. I get tired of the constant bombardment of advertising everywhere we turn these days. Maybe I need to take a chill pill ... ;)

No ads here either. I have them blocked on Firefox, Safari, and Int Explorer. The only ad I see is the GU ad on top.

Firefox and zero ads, not even the GU ad on top. Firefox is great. Bye bye IE.

While these particular ads don't bother me too much, I'm right with you on advertising in general. It has reached such a level of saturation now that avoiding advertising has become one of my principal activities in life. At times I'll go to some pretty extreme lengths to avoid seeing, or in the case of radio and TV, hearing, advertisements.

These don't bug me nearly as much as the little bast#$%ds that run in the bottom corner of the TV screen. Flashing on and off, people on other shows jumpin' up and down waving their arms around. Jeeez.
Or the ones that cause some pages to load slowly because you have to wait for the toyota video to run first GRRRRRRR.

These just kinda sit there benignly, not bothering anybody. Necessary evil, I reckon.
It could be one of those windows that chase you up and down the page 'til you close it.

Thanks, Mike. I had Adblock disabled while I was trying to figure out a prob with my PC. I have reinstalled it and I'm still seeing the Geico ads. I guess I'll get used to them ... :boring:

Do you ever see ads that are so annoying that you get turned off of even buying the product?

You can set the Adblock Plus to filter out any ad you don't want to see.
Go to tools and select options under the Adblock header.
Right click on the Geico ad to show it's properties and add the address into Adblock.

Firefox, no adblocker. Don't see any Geico ads, just the GM ones top and bottom. Tool, options, content, I blocked images from

as3.autoforums.com
googleads.g.doubleclick.net
s0.2mdn.net

Don't get the 47 sponsor links down the right side of the page. Page loads 3 times faster.

Now that this site is corporate owned and basically a source of ad revenue it would great if we could all migrate somewhere that wasn't all about making a buck by spamming us with garbage ads we don't care about.
