: Fikse Profil 5S Wheels
David Bates Aug 13th, 03, 2:59 PM Does anyone have any info on the quality of these wheels? Here's the link: Fikse Profil 5S (http://www.fikse.com/profil5s.html)
I was planning on Budik Arrowheads (http://www.budnik.com/roadwheeldetail.asp?scid=53&pid=518&pg=1) or Prism 5's (http://www.budnik.com/roadwheeldetail.asp?scid=53&pid=511&pg=5) until I saw these. Compared to the Budnik's, the Fikse wheels are PRICEY!!!
Any thoughts/info will be appreciated.
Clint44 Aug 14th, 03, 2:38 PM The reason Fikse wheels are higher priced,is because they are three piece construction. However,if you ding one, they are easier & cheaper to repair. Fikse wheels are top quality.
Almost all of the really big wheels made today are three piece.
David Bates Aug 16th, 03, 4:21 AM Thanks for the reply Clint. I fully expected "good" wheels to be a bit expensive given that they are three piece forged custom width wheels. What I didn't expect was $3651.90 for a set of four (two 17x8.5 and two 17x10) delivered to my door! That is a fully polished wheel ($100.00 extra per wheel) and they do look nice but, that's a lot of money for "nice" and I'm sure they are way too classy for my El Camino.
I priced some 17x8 and 17x9.5 Rally Wheels from Stockton Wheel and they were roughly $180.00 and $275.00 respectively plus about $100.00 shipping. Trim rings are not available for the 17's and the rally wheels would hide the new front and rear wilwood brakes (I took a chance on them) and GW front suspension/coil overs so I'm really looking for an open 5-spoke type wheel that you might not see much of. I like TT's (and all the look-alikes) but there are so many of them out there. I bet I saw 20 sets of them at Mark's Cruise two weeks ago! Maybe I'll have to re-visit Boyd's and Budnik.
pmullaly Aug 16th, 03, 8:16 PM Check out the wheels from Colorado Custom Wheels
I'm looking at a set of the Daconos for my elky

Clint44 Aug 17th, 03, 9:17 AM Dave, who gave you that price quote on those Fikse wheels? If it was Fikse, there's your problem as you can find their wheels a ton cheaper through their dealer network.
As Philip mentioned, there are a couple of Colorado Custom GP's going on out there with some very good pricing.
I paid over $2700 for my PS Engineering 17x9 & 17x13 Kidney Beans with five pin knockoffs. The knockoff hubs added $1000 to the cost so if you didn't want those, the price is reasonable. PSE makes a very cool five spoke wheel that looks a lot like the old TT D race units.
David Bates Aug 17th, 03, 7:23 PM Clint, That was Fikse (15% off list) but one of their dealers was even more at only 10% off! Are you awae of any dealers that will do better?
Phillip, I'll check out Colorado Custom!

Some of the Supporting Dealers on the Corvette Forum can make you a heckuva deal on Fikse & HRE wheels. You might try emailing a few of them. Extreme Performance out of AZ would be my first one to ask.
David Bates Aug 20th, 03, 4:45 AM After calling several more of Fikse's resellers including Xtreme Motorsports in Tempe, AZ (their price was the best beating Fikse's by about $20.00 per wheel), I have come to the conclusion that there are no good deals on these wheels just some that are a little better than others. They are expensive . . .period! Even the HRE wheels are listed on Xtreme's website as "starting at $800.00 per wheel" and some are much more.
Clint44 Aug 20th, 03, 9:56 PM Fikse and HRE wheels are very high-end products and are priced accordingly,Dave. There's really no getting around it. Have you checked out Complete Custom Wheel's website at www.ccwheel.com/? (http://www.ccwheel.com/?) They offer race-quality three piece 17"-18" wheels for $1800,delivered.

Thanks for your input Clint. Have you installed the Comp roller cam yet? I finally got off my backside and put the 461 back together. What a Pandora's box a simple cam change turned into.
Went to install the new valve springs and there was some interference between the inner spring and the rubber PC type valve seals. I ended up pulling the heads and cutting the guides down from 0.560" o.d. to 0.530" o.d. so I could install teflon PC seals. While the heads were off it was an opportune time to pull the stock front suspension and install the GW uppers, lowers and coil overs. GW never sent me a spanner wrench so I had to wait for them to send one and it ended up getting lost. Just the other day Doug sent me another one so I should have it next week some time. I fired the engine up yesterday and broke in the new cam/lifters etc. All I have left to do is put the grill back in, lower the car off the jack stands, set the front ride height (coil overs - have to use a strap wrench in lieu of the spanner) and adjust the toe. Last minute rush before the first annual Eastern States Nationals in Springfield, MA. I live no more than 3 miles from the Eastern States Expo fairgrounds so I'll be sleeping in my own bed for this show. My only regret is that I couldn't make my mind up about the wheels in time so I could install the new Wilwood F&R brakes (12.9" F and 12.2" R). Oh well, there's always next year!
andrewb70 Aug 23rd, 03, 12:31 PM Here is another option if you are looking for some killer 3 piece wheels. They are my favorites. ;)

I think they will be a little less expensive then the Fikse wheels.

Yep,I had Kim Barr Race Engines in the Dallas area put together my car's new 427 longblock with the Comp roller I got from you. Still looking for a 67 tripower intake. If I don't find one,I'll probably just install a Weiand Stealth or Edelbrock RPM Airgap with 750 Holley. It will most likely be early Winter before I install the BB. Next project is installing the GW tubular a-arms,QA1 coilovers, and Baer brake kit.
