I need some help. I want to put in a 383 stroker ~500 HP EFI in my '72 chevelle. I wanted to use my old fuel tank (still in great shape) to save $500 for a new one. But I keep seeing issues with sumps, fuel pressure, return lines, vent, etc. Can anyone help guide me in all the steps I need to do this with without spending a fortune? I am a newby, first restoration! I don't plan to race the car, but my son has a brand new 383 motor that I can put in it so I won't have to buy a motor. That is why I plan to use the 383 EFI. But I don't want trouble later with fuel starvation or lack of pressure, or whatever. I could use some expert advice.

moved this from Perf to EFI before I saw that you already posted a duplicate here.

sorry about that Tom. New to Chevelles and have not mastered all the ins and outs yet! I can't seem to get to my posts easily. Any help would be appreciated.

A simple method to ensure you have a solid fuel supply is to install a sump in your factory tank and feed an inline pump. Very reasonable and we've had good success with those in lower fuel levels in street driven applications.

Dennis, how much does it normally cost to have the sump installed - parts/labor?

I use my stock 71 chevelle tank with an external walbro 255lph pump. It manages to feed my boosted 350ci. I use the normal pickup and what I'm guessing to be a vapour return port as my fuel return. I keep the tank over a half and have no issues. I fill up to full just before any drag racing though. Not ideal or recomended if you have funds but if you're cheap/poor it does work.
Also I use a new aluminum 3/8" fuel line and fuel injection hose from the pump/filter to my fuel rail, I use the stock fuel line as my return hooked as said above to the vapour return port.

I use the stock tank in my Camaro with stock pick up. I did remove the tank and had a nipple welded at the top right hand corner for the return. Works fine. You will need a vented cap if the tank is not vented. I had to pressurize the tank to prime the pump when I was done and its held the prime since then, (aprox 2 months ago). Check out my video.
