The car behaved as asked and I managed to wrangle her into 1st place again this year at the autocross. There were more pro-touring cars this year and some stiff competition. Someone brought Brian Finch in to drive their DSE built car. I didn't think it was very fair having a hired gun behind the wheel, but it's not my decision on the rules. I ended up running a 18.749 and Brian followed it up with a 18.711, but hit a cone for a 2 second penalty. I have some videos Dave (bowtie70ss) took that I need to edit, also some footage my Dad took while riding shotgun, but most of that is probably of the floor.

Here are the videos Mike (marooned) took and posted to his photobucket. The Team Chevelle crew was definitely gunning for me and it feels great to have all the support. I hope this encourages others to get out and drive it like you stole it.

18.711............. "AND HIT A CONE". :D Funny stuff.

Congrats on bringing home the win and that nasty 3 foot tall president's choice trophy.

Maybe you can start collecting the gift certificate winnings and save up for the splined sway bar!?

I really need better shocks. The Hellwig bar on the front is running strong so no need to change that. Only thing is I want the Varishocks and I don't think DSE carries them. If I could only get Mark to honor my gift card.

Thanks man. I remember driving past the Live Oak exit on the way home.

Excellent job, again. Just proves there is more to building a great car than just bolting on expensive parts. Be very proud of what you are doing! I like how flat your chevelle stays through the turns too. Keep it up!

That's killer man!

I might have to haul the wagon out next year. This looks like too much fun to miss!

Congrats Mike, I would have tried it but since I was slower this year in the drags I had no chance lol. Bill Burke explained it to me though, I had water in the radiator this year thus I weighed more and it slowed me down.

Why was the course so much shorter this year? Weren't the quickest times in the 24s last year? Is it in the same lot?

How many runs did you get in?

That's killer man!

Congrats on the win again Mike, even if they did bring in a ringer and let him go an extra lap. I know that my 5 year old was cheering you on. Good talking to you again at Ground zero.

I think it was same course, definitely the same parking lot. You could see the tire marks from last year going past the cones. I think I made 8 runs, but they let the guy driving the DSE built car go one extra time after he hit the cone for some reason. I think next year the rules should be changed some since this will probably start getting more competitive.

I dug this up from last years thread:

Congrats Mike. It was great to meet you and hang out. I had a blast doing the autocross too. How did the times stack up? Was it DSE 64 19.40 You 20.80 and me 21.04. Does that sound right? I had a heck of a time beating my car up. I think the only one who had had more fun than me was Crazy Dave with that 582cid 69 Chevelle. Did anyone host any videos yet? I am waiting on Mikey to get home so they can post up the one of me they took. Later

Dave

One of my run from last year for comparison:

Perhaps the camera difference but I definitely didn't hear as much tire squeal/scrub and saw much more body roll on the '09 run.

Someday, I would like to drive my car for more than putting my 3yr old to sleep... :p

I think it got way more competitive this year LOL. You really raised the bar with over a 2 second improvement in time. If I ran DSE I would be offering you a full-on setup or at least a sponsorship. I think your car would look sick on the cover of their catalog. And finally your car didn't drive itself so with more practice you will only get better. I am sure the bar will remain high for next year. I just wonder how much money someone will spend to make a run at you...I know mine is adding up fast.

Looked like fun, your car handled pretty darn good. Like the Soft 8 wheels. I have the SCandC stuff as well, love it.

Man, do you think they can get any more cones out there? I'm not used to seeing that many cones on a course, especially a 20ish second one.

Here is a video from Sunday (not my car, no video setup yet). Notice the sadistic chicane/kink near the end. That was a tough one to get through.

Mike, it was impressive to watch you run against the "ringer" cars with pro drivers. Congrats again on the president's pick. Jeff finally got me to sign up for TC.
