: Front wheel rub- arrgh!

After spending all my time making sure my rear tires don't rub, I now have front problems. The car is a '69 Malibu with a '67 12 bolt with disc brakes; After much analysis and measurement, I settled on 15 x 10 ralleys with 5.5" back space and 295/50-15's BFGs - I have about 1/2" clearance on the inside and outside of the tire. Everythings great! EXCEPT, when I finally got the front end settled down the front fenders rest on the tires! OUCH! The front end has 2" drop spindles and the wheels are 15 x 8 ralleys with way too much backspace and 265/60-15 BFGs. At least I didn't try to drive it before I found out. So now I'm off to get a set of 15 x 7 ralleys. I may never get this car back on the road!

Wilber-

You may not solve your front tire rubbing issues by just changing to 15x7 wheels...I think a 265/60-15 size tire on the front is much too big. 245's or 235's might be a better choice. Good Luck!

I looked at the tires- I had misread them- they are 245's. I found a set of 15 X 7 Ralleys and mounted the 245/60-15's on them NOW everything fits- tires are tucked up under the fender and don't rub when turned lock to lock. graemlins/hurray.gif I still can't believe I didn't check that before I got this far.

yep .... I'll bet you didn't take the fact that the fenderwells bow in right after the fender lip ... I know I didn't see it before hand graemlins/clonk.gif I guess I'll hold off on those drop springs till the next time I buy tires ......

I think your problem was mainly the 265/60/15 tires, also. I've got 275/40/17's mounted on 17x9 wheels w/5" backspacing on my 69 El Camino. The car is lowered about 3".
