Hi All, just got my 66 El Camino off the trailer and on jack-stands. First order of business is to get me some wheels. Can anyone tell me what size wheels I should be looking at (that will fit w/o mods)? Does anyone know what the orig. equipment sizes were?
Thanks,
Dave

Hi Dave;
I was able to fit 16 x 8 rims with 4.5 inch backspacing on my 66 El Camino with no modification of sheet metal. The 4.5 inch backspacing is required. Tires are 255-50-16, which are 26 inches in diameter. This is the same diameter (within a few tenths anyway) of stock for these cars. As far as I know, 15 x 8 "Corvette Ralley" wheels fit with no modifications. These have 4 inch backspacing. Might have to be more careful about the tires contacting the outer fender lip. As for stock tire size I can't quite recall. Something like 775-75-14 or F-75-14 or something.
Cheers,
JW

As far as I know, 15 x 8 "Corvette Ralley" wheels fit with no modifications The stock Corvette 15X8 Rallys do fit, but you can't get a big tire under the back due too the backspacing.. They stick out too far.
I have 15X8 Rallys, custom offset (I think about 5 inch BS), and fit a BFGoodrich 295/50-15 with NO outer lip modifications (And a stock 66 12-bolt)...
Up front I run 265-50/15 BFGs on 15X7 Rallys from a mid-70's Monte Carlo...
I use the 15X7 trim rings on all 4 wheels...
When the car was significantly lowered (4-5 inches), one front tire would rub the inner-fender bolts at full-lock, but otherwise, they fit great...
