does anyone have good/bad experience w/ta drags on street?i'm on the fence on what to use on my 66ss.about 450-500hp,4spd,using TA radials now but getting no traction.tires are about 27"tall w/about 8.5-9"tread.thinking about 275/50r15,26"tall w/10"tread.whats a hotrodder to do? thanks for any replys,v.j.metallo
I had a set of 235/60/15 BFG Drag Radials, that I had inherated from my brother, (who has since inherated them back.).
He ran 13.00 with a 427 Nova, I ran 13.53 in my 68 SS-396. He spun, I took it real easy on launch.
Once I got caught driving home in the rain, with them on, and driving up a fairly long steep hill, the back end got loose. (Didn't wreck) but it was enough to convince me they are not an all weather tire. Tread depth is the reason.
I'm going to get a new larger set soon. The street manners on dry pavement are just fine. I doubt you could tell a difference from any good quality street tire.

I run bfg drag radials on the street with my 66 chevelle only when it's dry out. They hook up pretty good compared to normal radials. I wouldn't recommend them when it's wet out though.

IMO, don't waste your money on the BFG's. I had a set and they really don't start hooking well until they're bald. Which by the way, doesn't take very long at all. I only got 1k miles out of mine.
The Nitto 555R is a much better tire, especially if there is a chance of being caught in the rain. My 3600# SBC Camaro ran a 1.67 60ft on 275/60-15 Nitto's. And, unlike the BFG's, actually have a tread wear rating (100).

thanks for all the replys, and i am going to try the nitto's.they seem to have a better tread wear guarantee(15k)as opposed to gfg's 90 days.also,i ordered 15x8 AR hopsters w/a5" b.s. and 15x7 up front.i hope they look good!v.j.metallo

What Bill said..
I do run them on my car for the track, and a little on the street. They do hook pretty good when the tread starts to go away...

Use their "Dealer Locator"...

I got mine from a buddy that owns a Goodyear store who just ordered them from his tire distributor.
Got them for a great price ,too.
