I have a 72 that has been minie tubbed . The tubs don't go as far accross and permit a back seat. I doubt if you will need it on yours . just have to measure. If you tub you generly also narrow the rearend. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

You can stuff some pretty large tire & wheel combos under a Chevelle or El Camino before mini-tubbing or full tubs are required.

I've heard its hard to mini tub, a Chevelle, because, the wheel wells pretty much line up with the frame. Meaning to do it you have to "notch" the frame to do it.

For 15-235-60s you don't need it.
I'm runng 15-275-15s, and thing about going bigger.

And its like Clint44 said, you can get a lot under the back of a Chevelle, before you need to get that radical.

D'oh graemlins/clonk.gif Maybe a 66 is different.

Email us, and we will take some pics of how we tubbed our '69 Elke. We offset the aluminum support channels and the aluminum tubs to create more clearance to prevent "RUB" as the tires move and flex. There was some gain in space over having the tubs line up with the frame. The former owner had rolled the inner lip(s), and then we cut out most of the inner fender for more space, however, we left 1" of the inner fender for support (Otherwise the fender would flex).

As Clint stated, you can stuff some big tire/wheel combos under a Chevelle/Elke.

Gil,

I am running BFGoodrich 295-50/15 on the back of my 66, with a 15X8 inch rim... No trimming of the outer lip, and no mini tubs...

Just need to get the right offset/backspacing on the rims.

I also run 265/50-15s up front with no mods...

See the picture in my signature below...

Oh yeah, the car used to sit ALOT lower (3-5 inches lower), and still very seldom a clearance problem (my headers scraped :D )...
